I am pregnant with twins and we found out today that it is 2 girls!

We have a good list of names, but I’m keen to hear thoughts and opinions about our top choices!

For info, our surname is double barrelled and due to family etc, middle names will be Rose and Jean - but it is first names we are trying to decide on!

Florence
Ottilie
Penelope
Tabitha
Violet
Tallulah
Pandora
Arabella

Thanks all!!

I love Penelope. I've never met a Penelope and think it sounds beautiful.

Theoldwoman · 25/12/2025 10:50

Arabella Rose and Penelope Jean

SquigglePigs · 25/12/2025 10:58

Congratulations!

For the sake of them being able to identify their own post etc I'd avoid the same first initial. My 7 yr old DD has been excited about envelopes with her name on since she was 2 and it'd be a shame to dilute that.

My favourites are Tabitha and Florence and I think they go well together. I also know a little Penelope and Ottilie and they go well together too.

Arabella is the name I always wish I'd been brave enough to use.

Violet is ok but I don't think it goes with any of the others very well.

Sorry, not keen on Pandora (too tied to the jewelry brand now) or Tallulah.

ItsameLuigi · 25/12/2025 11:28

Not on ur list but Lyla Rose sounds pretty. (My daughter is Lyla Grace) She has a friend at school called Elsie Jean I think that's quite nice too. Ettie Rose would be cute. I would pick a 4/5 letter name personally as the middle and double barreled last names will make the name very long.

TempsPerdu · 25/12/2025 11:45

Congratulations on your twins OP. I love Tabitha from your list and also quite like Violet, so those would be my picks - not keen on the rest as they’re either overused or too flouncy for me.

I agree with others though that longer names with a double-barrelled surname can be a bit ‘much’ - like something out of a Jilly Cooper novel. Personally I’d go for something a bit shorter and less frilly, but obviously they’re not my twins! To be fair, I think Tabitha and Violet are the two least fussy on that list (possibly along with Florence).

DreadingWinter · 25/12/2025 12:18

I've got a long name and double barrelled surname. It's never been too much. Certainly not Jilly Cooper.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 25/12/2025 12:26

My favourites from your list are Florence, Arabella and Tabitha. I have a soft spot for Tallulah, and imagine any Tallulah being quite artistic and boho-chic, wafting around in kaftans and things!

I like Florence and Penelope best of your list. Lovely timeless names.

I can't explain it but I have such a dislike of Ottilie. It has also had a really quick rise up the popularity charts in recent years - in our part of London, there are loads of Ottilies everywhere, and so I think there a risk that it will become one of those names that really dates.

I don't think this is a risk, more a guarantee. Names that rise fast will fall fast. Very much a 'Sharon' of 2065

CrostaDiPizza · 25/12/2025 20:10

Ottilie. Does it have something to do with Tilly being popular, or is it because of Oti Mabuse?
Otto has also increased in popularity.

JacobsCreamCrackered · 26/12/2025 00:10

I would do Violet Jean and Something Rose so that both girls have a flower in thier name.

Sequins23 · 26/12/2025 10:03

Thank you for your opinions and thoughts!!

My surname is 2 syllables - 1 syllable and although a longer name may sound a lot, my mum, sister and dad both have long names which I think sound great with our surname! My wife and I both have 4 letter first names.

Tbh, I did have to cross Persephone off our list as it really WAS a lot with the surname haha.

I hope everyone who celebrates it had a lovely Christmas!

All the boys of a certain age with want to get into Pandoras box.

Moreteaandchocolate · 26/12/2025 10:20

Congratulations!

Will you shorten any of the names day to day?

Penny and Tilly sound good together (Penelope and Ottilie)

Florence and Violet sound nice together otherwise.

user1492757084 · 26/12/2025 13:58

I would choose ..
Arabella Jean
and
Ottilie Rose or Rose Ottilie

Calliopespa · 26/12/2025 20:14

thebeautifulsky · 24/12/2025 20:59

Arabella Rose - a beautiful combination imo
Penelope Jean - a close second

Congratulations!

Came to suggest exactly the same combinations: Penelope Jean and Arabella Rose.

Both lovely and classic.

Crunchymum · 28/12/2025 10:50

I actually really like the names Jean and Rose!

APatternGrammar · 28/12/2025 11:45

Another vote for Jean and Rose as first names. Awesome names and work well together.

SE13Mummy · 28/12/2025 12:03

Jowak1 · 24/12/2025 23:09

Florence Jean and Violet Rose

This would be my suggestion too; I prefer names that aren't 'vowely', especially for girls.

Meadowfinch · 28/12/2025 12:05

Vivienne Rose and Harriet Jean

ChocolateCinderToffee · 28/12/2025 16:57

Penelope Rose and Tabitha Jean.

I'm glad you're ignoring the people who think three-syllable names are too long with a double-barrelled surname. My given name is one syllable and I would hesitate to give a child a one-syllable surname. It can be barked.

BatsInHibernation · 28/12/2025 17:34

I love your list and my child's name is on there.
Tabitha Rose
Pandora Jean

Bluebunnylover · 28/12/2025 17:48

Penelope and Violet are lovely names!

cheapskatemum · 28/12/2025 18:00

I think twin girls called Tallulah & Pandora would be adorable. I’d match Tallulah with Rose & Pandora with Jean.

gillybombilly · 28/12/2025 18:02

Florence Rose
Arabella Jean

Congratulations!

Jamclag · 28/12/2025 18:20

How lovely - congratulations!
This is bringing back memories for me. I found out I was expecting twin girls on Christmas Eve nearly thirty years ago - born the following June.

All your name choices are lovely.
I think Florence Rose and Violet Jean work really well together.
I did a similar combination of flower names - first name for one and middle name for the other - nice way to link twins but not too matchy.
