Alternative to 'Ellie' i.e. 'Ayllie' Aellee' or 'Aelly'

I'm wondering if any of you lovely ladies could help? Our little girl is due early next year and my partner and I still can't decide on which alternative spelling for 'Ellie' we would like. I'm drawn to either 'Ayllie' or 'Aellee'. Any kind thoughts on it would be appreciated :)

I prefer Eaeillieeeeey

MakingPlans2025 · 13/12/2025 19:41

She would spend her life having to spell it out. What is the issue with just calling her Ellie?

purpleme12 · 13/12/2025 19:41

Well they're a different sound at the beginning of the name aren't they. So it's a different name full stop.

MakingPlans2025 · 13/12/2025 19:41

Unless this is a joke 🙄

ShawnaMacallister · 13/12/2025 19:41

Why the hell would you do this to another person?

Ellie is how to spell Ellie.

Adding additional vowels helps no one.

travelallthetime · 13/12/2025 19:42

Ragebait

Nobumsonthetable · 13/12/2025 19:42

Those alternatives are just silly OP. Come on.

SabrinaThwaite · 13/12/2025 19:43

Eilidh? A bit like Ellie but is a proper name.

Tiedyeegg · 13/12/2025 19:44

You need to try harder. This one’s too obviously a wind up

PrincessOfPreschool · 13/12/2025 19:44

Ragebait

I reckon.

Otherwise LE is another option

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/12/2025 19:45

Assuming you’re on the wind-up op. Or do you just really, really like vowels..?
I hope you’re not serious anyway, lol…

HushaBabbee · 13/12/2025 19:46

Well her surname will b 'Adams' so I just wanted the alliteration and Ellie is becoming slightly over used now

I think it’s cruel and idiotic to give a name with a daft spelling. You might think it’s cool and edgy, the poor child facing a lifetime of spelling it out isn’t going to agree.

Fleur405 · 13/12/2025 19:46

Jelly with a silent J?

HushaBabbee · 13/12/2025 19:50

Hey come on its 21st century! its just an alternative to 'Ellie' something a bit culturally diversive

Do you mean the Gaelic name Eilidh? It can also be spelled (subject to other mumsnet users' strong feelings on it) Ailidh, Ailie, or Eily.

Aellee is... not going to be a name you will find on a souvenir pen.

It’s a wind-up.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 13/12/2025 19:54

Is this meant to be amusing?

Thanks for that Sabrina but looking for a name that sounds like 'Ellie' but begins with and 'A'😊

There’s a reason why everybody else with a daughter named Ellie spells it ELLIE.
I can’t tell if you’re joking but your daughter won’t thank you for a made up spelling.

TeenToTwenties · 13/12/2025 19:56

Allie, with Alison on the birth certificate.

Comedycook · 13/12/2025 19:56

Kellie but the k is silent
Bellie but the b is silent
Nellie but the n is silent
Wellie but the w is silent
Jellie but the j is silent

She will never get bored of explaining it

Elisheva · 13/12/2025 19:57

None of those are alternate spellings for Ellie.
