Amon?

I’ve already registered my baby boy as Amon, but I’ve felt very rushed in the process and now I’m overthinking spellings/meanings. Should I change his name to the traditional Eamon (my name is also Irish so it works well), or continue with Amon, which is a name in its own right, it just gets mispronounced and maybe has different connotations? Help!

To be honest, when i first looked at it I thought it was Anon. Might be my tired eyes though

Looperoo · 21/11/2025 16:34

As above I thought it was Anon.
You're clearly having second thoughts so go with your gut, I say.

Jugendstiel · 21/11/2025 16:35

I like it. But Eamon might be easier to go through life with as it's a more trad spelling. I got it confused with Amos at first glance.

PersephoneParlormaid · 21/11/2025 16:36

I would say it A-Mon, not Aymon. You’ve both got a lifetime of spelling it and pronouncing it.

HoldingTheDoor · 21/11/2025 16:36

When I see or hear the name Amon I can’t help thinking of Amon Göth/Goeth so I’d definitely change it.

ShenendoahRiver · 21/11/2025 16:37

Change it to Eamonn.

GoGoGooo · 21/11/2025 16:39

Should I change his name to the traditional Eamon

Yes, I think you should, sorry. Eamonn is a beautiful name. I just don’t think your current spelling does it justice. Like others I thought of both Anon and Amos. And I did read it as Ay-mon, but I think a lot of others might not.

I immediately thought the same thing, definitely change it OP.

HealthAnxietyReallySucks · 21/11/2025 16:40

I’d go eamon too as I assumed Amon was an Arabic/ Middle Eastern name. So if you’re going for Irish, that’s not where I was going with pronunciation.

Anothernamechangeasouting · 21/11/2025 16:43

I thought 'Amen'. I would change it. Nice name but you're right about the spelling.

Chersfrozenface · 21/11/2025 16:48

Amon, later Amon-Ra, one of the spellings of the name of a major Ancient Egyptian god?

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/11/2025 16:59

I would also think Amon was for the Egyptian deity or else derived from the Hebrew and not pronounced the same as Eamonn at all. If you want it pronounced Eamonn and have Irish heritage, I’d go with Eamonn. It’s a nice name and well known enough that spelling isn’t likely to be a problem

VeryQuaintIrene · 21/11/2025 17:15

I thought you'd gone for calling him after the Egyptian god of the sun as well!

CeciliaMars · 21/11/2025 17:16

It looks like a mixture of Amen and Anon

Livpool · 21/11/2025 18:19

Sorry but I thought of Nazi war criminal Amon Goth, then the Egyptian god. That is is Irish wouldn’t even have occurred to me

Mandarinaduck · 21/11/2025 19:52

I also thought immediately of Amon Goeth, so for me it would be a bad association - but I'm sure many others wouldn't think that.

MrsApplepants · 21/11/2025 20:35

I also thought of Amon Goeth the nazi murderer. Sorry

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 21/11/2025 20:56

I would change it.

So did I.

Change it to the traditional spelling.

Change it to the traditional spelling.

It's a completely different name

user1492757084 · 22/11/2025 01:52

You are having major regret so change the name to another ..

Eamon
Amondo
Armon
Simon
Zalmon
Ramon
Desmond

mathanxiety · 22/11/2025 02:48

You should change it to Eamon.

Have you never seen Schindler's List? (Look up Amon Goeth).

JillyGiraffe · 22/11/2025 06:38

Yes change it! You’re not changing the name, only the spelling so it makes no difference to what people call him. I had to re-read Amon to work out how to pronounce it… looks like a spelling mistake.

nellietheellie75 · 22/11/2025 06:51

Change it to Eamon. Amon Goeth is not someone I'd be wanting to share a name with.
