What do you think of the name Avie for a baby girl? We are expecting our first girl in January but would not like to share name ideas with family and friends, so any feedback on here would be welcome.

I would just go for Ava or Eva.

Not sure people would know how to pronounce it.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 06/11/2025 15:47

Sorry, OP, it sounds like a set of initials to me. Evie is nice though.

EuroTour · 06/11/2025 15:50

Only with the middle name More

BoleynMemories13 · 06/11/2025 15:55

Ava, Eva, Evie and Ivy are all lovely, albeit very popular right now.

Avie just sounds made up. It sounds like someone is trying to be different, because they know the others are so popular currently, when in reality Avie will just blend in with them anyway.

She'll spend her whole life explaining to people that it's Avie, not Ava, Evie or Ivy.

Personally I really wouldn't advise it.

PumpkinTwistyWindToots · 06/11/2025 15:57

It's not a name. It could be a nickname for something but a name on its own? No

user0177561 · 06/11/2025 15:59

I like it. I’ve heard it before on maybe two / three little girls near me so it’s definitely not something I’d class as made up. I like all of the Ava, Eva, Evie variations. Avie is slightly different, a bit more unique than the others.

MeridaBrave · 06/11/2025 16:12

I’ve have several (like multiple) friends called Avi. Generally spelt without the e. Disagree that it’s made up.

Mostly From Hebrew short for Avraham (Hebrew for Abraham). Or girl short for Abigail (Hebrew for Abigail).

Other similar Aviv or Aviva. Or Abie. Or more common Evie, Ivy, Abby, Ava etc

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/11/2025 16:21

I like it as short for something, maybe Aveline?

LeopardsANeutral · 06/11/2025 16:24

How would you pronounce it? Ah-vee, Ay-vee, Av-ee, Ivy? I think it looks like you're trying to spell Ivy a bit "differently".

Friendlyfart · 06/11/2025 16:28

It’s a Hebrew male name

Jessbow · 06/11/2025 16:57

Avery?

We would pronounce it Ay-vee.

Thanks for the feedback so far. We are wanting to go with something more rare, and appreciate it will not be to everyone's taste, but do appreciate everyone's thoughts.

I think it sounds like you want to use a popular sounding name like Ava or Evie but want it to be different, sorry. I think there are loads of lovely names out there that are not super popular. I’d look at the top 500-1000 names for ideas.

Feeda · 06/11/2025 17:04

Avis is a girl’s name. It was a name used in the book The Well Beloved by Thomas Hardy

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/11/2025 17:05

There is an Avie at the school I work in.I think its nice.

All the people I know say it Aa-vee.

so risk of mispronouncing..

ginasevern · 06/11/2025 17:39

Sorry OP but it just sounds made up and like you're trying too hard to be different from the Evie, Ava, Ivy syndrome. I don't even think it's particularly great given all the lovely girls' names out there.

JillyGiraffe · 06/11/2025 18:32

It looks like a spelling mistake for Evie.

HugoYorway · 06/11/2025 19:07

Gravie

Redwaterr · 06/11/2025 19:38

It sounds made up to me as well. Just sounds like you like Eva, Evie etc but don't want to use them because they're too popular.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 06/11/2025 20:12

It's very random

Call her Ava or even Avery (not v popular here but it seems to be in the US) and use it as a nickname, if you must

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 06/11/2025 20:13

ShootingStar07 · 06/11/2025 16:58

We would pronounce it Ay-vee.

If you want rare I would think again, because it's just going to blur with all the Ava, Evie Eves

Enko · 06/11/2025 20:13

I like it. Pretty and easy to say and spell

JudgeBread · 06/11/2025 20:18

I knew an Aviva who went by Avi. I preferred Aviva tbh.

It's not going to sound rare at all though, she'll just be anothe in the huge group of Ava's, Eva's, Evie's and various convoluted misspellings of those names.

PerfunctoryFunk · 06/11/2025 20:18

It makes me think of AV.
