What do you think of the name Avie for a baby girl? We are expecting our first girl in January but would not like to share name ideas with family and friends, so any feedback on here would be welcome.

I would pronounce it ah-vee like Aviemore. I have never seen 'Avie' as a name but knew an Avi (pronounced similarly) and think that was the more common spelling. Her family were from Asia and I suspect it was a shortening of her real name.

Viviennemary · 06/11/2025 20:31

No sounds made up. It isnt any sort of name I would recognise.

SirChenjins · 06/11/2025 20:36

Avie as in AV, short for audio visual? It's not really rare - plus it sounds like all the other Evie/Ava/Ivy/etc.

If you want rare, there are plenty of orher names that no-one uses anymore and which don't sound like the popular ones of today.

MsCrawford · 06/11/2025 20:44

I know an Avie! I don’t think she has had any issues with people pronouncing her name.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/11/2025 20:44

She'll spend her entire life explaining it. Unusual names, and if you like "V"

Valda
Verity
Evelyn
Davina
Vivienne

or

Isolde
Xanthe
Araminta
Phyllida
Tamsin
Anouska

I know an Avie, her full name is Aviella. She doesn't get any problems as far as I know. Both lovely names.

Ooogle · 06/11/2025 20:50

I know of one spelled Avy

as far as I know she has no issues with pronunciation.

yellowrocks · 06/11/2025 20:59

Avie was my brother’s name (Indian background). A nickname but a lovely name

Mischance · 07/11/2025 11:58

All names start somewhere. I don't see why you shouldn't call your DD this. It is inoffensive.

HugoYorway · 07/11/2025 12:13

@Mischance , true but it is so similar to Ava, Evie, Ivy etc, that it doesn't seem new or fresh. There's confusion as to how to say it, and it doesn't look pretty.

CubanPete · 07/11/2025 16:45

I really like it - I’ve not heard it before and think it’s a nice twist on the similar, more popular, names.

RecordBreakers · 07/11/2025 16:57

I hear that as 2 letters 'A' 'V' , which, round here stands for Aston Villa.

I also think it is to close to the popular names mantioned, and it will be a pain for her for the next 90 years having to constantly say "No not Evie" , "No not Ava".

tapaw · 07/11/2025 17:01

I would just think that the parents thought that they were somehow different or more special than the rest of us. Why not just use ordinary names such as Evie, Ivy, Ava, Eva?

I would also wonder if Avie had been conceived in Aviemore.

crappycrapcrap · 07/11/2025 17:07

It’s a sweet name

cadentiasidera · 07/11/2025 17:37

I know one and it's short for Aveline. I think both are lovely, though I would give her the full name and use Avie for short.

GreenMarigold · 07/11/2025 17:39

I know an Octavia who goes by Avie. It’s nice as a nickname.

user1492757084 · 09/11/2025 08:33

Avie is not a name to me.

Ideas ..
Avril
Avalon
Aviva
Davina - my favourite
Anna Victoria (AV)
Evangelina
Angela
Avonne
Aoife
Aster
Lavender
Octavia and Aveline are nice suggestions too.

Bagamama · 09/11/2025 08:38

No. There are already way too many Ava, Eva, Ellie's etc.

StrongLikeMamma · 09/11/2025 09:28

You could call her Aveline OP and Avie could be her nickname
