Looking for people's thoughts. We really like Enya as a first name and I want to use "Bee" as a middle name in honour of my Auntie who passed a couple of years ago. My Husband doesn't think the names sound right together. I think they do but also not sure if I am being blinded by liking Enya so much and really wanting Bee as the middle name. Help!!

Was was your aunties name short for? Beatrice?
Enya Beatrice is gorgeous.

PiggieWig · 04/11/2025 21:35

I like them. Bee is unusual and people will probably assume it’s Enya B Surname (like Richard E Grant or Mark E Smith) but it’s a middle name and not a big problem if they get it wrong, because it would be right anyway:

Enya is a beautiful name.

ALC1 · 04/11/2025 21:38

No my Auntie was actually Brenda, but we all called her Bee for short "Auntie Bee" she was like our mother B and it just stuck and bees have represented her for us ever since :)

I think it’s very sweet 🐝

Ooogle · 04/11/2025 21:45

I’d probably spell it Bea so it looks more of a name than an insect.

Screamingabdabz · 04/11/2025 21:50

The ‘ya’ is a bit jarring with Bee (agree it should be Bea). How about Essie Bea? Or Emmaline Bea? Elayna Bea? Elleanor Bea?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 04/11/2025 22:09

It does sound a bit like she's Enya B in a class full of several Enyas, but other than that it's OK

HugoYorway · 04/11/2025 22:12

How about Essie Bea? S E B?

ChocolateCinderToffee · 04/11/2025 22:53

Enya Melissa? Melissa means bee.

SkaneTos · 04/11/2025 22:54

Enya is a beautiful name, and Bee is very cute with a great family connection.

The only person I know about with the name Enya is the Irish singer (but I am not originally from Ireland or the UK.)
And the singer Enya is great, so that is a really good connection!

Well, she's called Eithne IRL, she just made it phonetic for her career

OSTMusTisNT · 05/11/2025 00:24

I think there are too many 'a/e' sounds.

What about adding a second longer middle name to balance it out e.g Enya Margaret Bea/Bee?

Yes, Eithne is an Irish name that is correctly pronounced Enya, especially in the Irish-speaking area of the NW of Ireland where she is from.

It was anglicized to the pronunciation "Ethna".

FullOfMomsense · 05/11/2025 02:50

Enya Bee doesn't flow right. To me it sounds like En Yubbee which is just weird. Love the name bee though! What about Erin? Orla? Although I think the vowel sound at the end is the issue. Enid Bee, ingrid bee, Hazel Bee, iris bee, violet bee, Rose bee, isobel bee seem to flow better with a consonant at the end if the first name imo.

CanadianCooper · 05/11/2025 02:57

No! It has the same intonation as “I’m a bee” or sounds like she is a class of other Enyas. Like Hugo B and Hugo R. I’d be inclined to call her Beatrice and Bea for short.

Cheeseplease19 · 05/11/2025 03:00

I love Enya but not sure about Bee.

WaltzingWaters · 05/11/2025 07:36

Is there another middle name you could add in the middle so it flows a little better?
Enya xxx Bee? I don’t think Enya Bee sounds/flows well, but I think with something breaking it up it will be lovely.

HugoYorway · 05/11/2025 07:47

It's fine @ALC1 . Don't add a middle name to break it up - it'll ruin it.
Check that the surname goes OK with Enya and Enya Bee.
Enya Bee Goode would be terrible.

OrdinaryGirl · 05/11/2025 07:48

Enya is a lovely name ( personally would probably spell it Eithne if I were to use it for a child)
But I wonder if any single-syllable middle name oddly calls to mind ‘Enya Face’ in terms of prosody, if that makes sense? In a way that a two or three syllable middle name wouldn’t.

I dont know if the Enya Face thing is just me, as an old gribbler who used to listen to Terry Wogan and the people who wrote in under names like ‘Norma Stitz’ or ‘Helena Handcart’ or ‘Hugh Jarse’. Quite prepared to be told IABU 😊

JudgeBread · 05/11/2025 07:50

I actually like it, but I think there are some surnames that could tip it over from being cute to being a bit ceebeebies. How does it sound with your surname op?

IwishIhadcheese · 05/11/2025 07:52

Sounds like a spice girl.

I would use Bea as a first name. It’s really lovely.

drspouse · 05/11/2025 07:54

It says "Enbee" or Non Binary to me but hopefully that fad will be gone by the time your DD is a teenager!

DurhamDurham · 05/11/2025 07:55

I actually like it. Sounds lovely. If it was me, I’d spell it Bea rather than Bee but it’s nice either way.

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 05/11/2025 07:56

I don’t like Enya. But Bee or Bea is great.

Homegrownberries · 05/11/2025 07:57

I'd prefer B. or Bea but realistically, no one ever uses their middle name.
