Zander Elias Grant, Zachary Elias Grant or Zachariah Grant Elias?

Hello everyone,

I am struggling to come to a final decision for my son’s name, the father wants Elias + Grant as his middle names as his middle name is Grant and he likes the name Elias. I am choosing his first name, but I am torn between the 3 i have written in the title. Zander Elias Grant, Zachary Elias Grant or Zachariah Grant Elias. I like that Zachariah isn’t as popular, as I do like to be different. I just don’t know if it flows as nicely as the other two names, I want the middle names to flow even though they’re not used or said as often as the first + last names.

Not convinced Zachariah works so personally I’d rule it out. How about Zachary Grant Elias? Also how does the surname fit, how many syllables?

His surname has got 2 syllables.
Zachariah Elias Grant? I love that first name the most, but I feel it just doesn’t flow as much which is a real shame.

Zander is spelled Xander usually

SugarMiceInTheRain · 27/10/2025 23:23

Zachary Elias Grant or Zachary Grant Elias. Zachariah seems too much with Elias and not that keen on Zander/ Xander

Gloschick · 27/10/2025 23:27

How about Elias Zachariah Grant? Better flow to it, and Elias is a nice and not overused name. You can still call him Zach if you want. Lots of people go by their middle names.

saraclara · 27/10/2025 23:37

My mouth can't cope with Zacharia Elias. It can only just cope with Zachary Elias.

MoonKiss · 27/10/2025 23:41

Zachariah Elias definitely doesn’t flow

KnickerlessParsons · 27/10/2025 23:53

Zander is correctly spelled Xander, as it’s short for Alexander.
Zachary is the nicest out of the other two.

MirandaBlu · 28/10/2025 00:29

I'd think about how Elias is pronounced in your/your husband's/the local accent. I would pronounce it something like ih-LIE-ahs (or even uh-LIE-ahs), so Zachary Elias Grant (my favourite of your three combos) strikes me as nice and balanced. But if it's pronounced ee-LIE-ahs, it can feel a bit echo-y with the end of Zachary. That said, I'd pick the first name you love most and work the middles in around it; they'll be used far less.

RainbowBagels · 28/10/2025 01:00

I think ' Grant' doesnt go with the other two so is making everything not go together, but if all 3 names, Zachary Elias Grant.

ozarina · 28/10/2025 01:33

They all make me think of American Civil War generals 😬

I think it flows really well, far better than Z G E Surname.

This is the name I'd choose.

LivingTheDreamish · 28/10/2025 01:51

Zachariah Elias is a bit rhymey. I would go for Zachary Elias Grant but if you prefer Zachariah then Zachariah Grant Elias is also very nice.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 28/10/2025 03:03

Zander is a species of fish.

Agreed

muddyford · 28/10/2025 05:47

Not Zander. It was a predatory fish in the 1970/80s that anglers weren't allowed to put back in if they caught one.
Nor Xander.
Zachary Elias Grant sounds lovely.

CarlaLemarchant · 28/10/2025 05:51

Obviously you can spell it how you want but if you pick Zander, people will always assume that you didn’t/couldnt spell Xander correctly.

I probably wouldn’t pick Zachariah either because his total name will be 10 syllables which is very long and seriously may not fit on a passport form (I say this with sympathy as mine comes close).

Personally, I would pick Zachary Grant and leave Elias for his future little brother.

TakeMe2Insanity · 28/10/2025 06:06

Zachary, Zachariah, (other spellings ) very over used here. I’d say ditch the Z name with the Elias Grant combination.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 28/10/2025 09:15

Pick the first name then the order. Which out of:

  • Zander Critten
  • Zachary Critten
  • Zachariah Critten

And which out of:

  • Zac Critten
  • Zach Critten

Zander - looks like you can't spell, and it's a fish. Xander is ok if short for Alexander
Zachary - popular
Zachariah - he'll be Zac/Zach anyway. It's very long.

Middle names - Elias Grant flows better IMO because Grant looks more surnamey. Elias is a bit long as a middle name especially when there's another middle name.

Does Elias Grant Critten flow? Better than Zachary Elias Grant Critten?

Zachary Elias Grant flows best.

OldBeyondMyYears · 28/10/2025 10:38

Xander Elias Grant (but please spell Xander correctly).

Zachary/Zachariah Elias is too much of a mouthful of vowels!

WildCherryBlossom · 28/10/2025 10:41

Zachary Elias Grant flows best I think.

Yes, but I prefer Zachary to Elias. IMO both are too long and will get shortened.

The flow of the middle names is not an issue. You hardly ever use your middle names, unless your first name and surname are common.

Which first name do you prefer, which does your DH prefer.
The baby will be getting his dad's middle name and his dad's surname, but you're the one who will be giving birth.

If the baby was in your arms and you could only give him one name, what would you choose?

DuchessOfNarcissex · 28/10/2025 11:09

@Ellycritten , the question should be:

What do you like best:

  • Elias Critten
  • Zachary Critten?
