Irish boy names?

What are your favourites, please? Would like something slightly unusual (not ‘yoonique’, just not super common). No fadas or anglicisations (nothing with a K, for example).

Please let me know some that you like.

Where are you based? What names do you like?
Is the surname going to rule out certain names?
When is the baby due? Are there some names you won't be able to use because of siblings/close friends/cousins?

The names that I'm thinking of are very popular in Ireland, but not in the UK. (e.g.Tadhg, Fionn, Ruairi)

Deepbluefoers · 19/10/2025 15:12

Colm is one of my favourite names

dybb · 19/10/2025 15:16

I love Ferdia or Fiachra. Or Ruadh.

We’re in central London. I really like Niall, Ruadhán (but don’t want fadas), Enda and Torin. I like Ruairi, DH not so keen.

Mixed culture double barrelled last name. Think Daly-Chaudry.

Ronan

I’m Irish and live in Yorkshire and my son is Shay (Seamus officially but rarely called Seamus. No fadas to avoid confusing the English side of the family).

Loads of names I liked wouldn’t have worked with our surname but I also liked Connor, Cormac, Liam. I love Colm but think it might confuse people who weren’t familiar with it. Ditto Tadhg (which I ❤️❤️❤️), Diarmuid, Fionnan, Padraig.

Thanks @IHate .
I like Niall, but it Nee-ul/Nigh-ul ?
Enda - not sure, might get Edna
Ruadhán - I think it's Roo-arn (non-rhotic). Nice but might be tricky
Ruairi - will get said as Rory and misspelt a lot.

Something beginning in D like Darragh?
Play it safe and use Patrick? It's a lovely name.

I wouldn't pick Cian or Cillian or anything beginning with Ci/Ce/Cy.
