What are your favourites, please? Would like something slightly unusual (not ‘yoonique’, just not super common). No fadas or anglicisations (nothing with a K, for example).

Please let me know some that you like.

Tadgh- pronounced Tag

Except it’s not pronounced ‘Tag’, or anything like it.

It’s definitely not pronounced Tag.

And not spelt Tadgh, if spelt correctly it's Tadhg.

Cian
Cillian
Lorcan
Cathal
Brendan
Conor
Eoin
Daragh
Liam

.... lots to choose from that fit your requirements.

Feb85 · 19/10/2025 22:28

pumpkinscake · 19/10/2025 22:37

Cathal is nice but maybe hard to pronounce for non Irish? Cian? Eoin?

Drawmouse · 19/10/2025 22:43

Colm can be pronounced Colim or Culum. I prefer Culum!

GetToHeaven · 19/10/2025 23:09

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 19/10/2025 23:30

I love Sean. love the spelling of it.
It probably doesn't come across as Irish enough these days though 🤔

Anabellie · 19/10/2025 23:38

Cuan
Poraic

Flatandhappy · 19/10/2025 23:48

Oisin should have a fada but I can’t find it on my keyboard. It’s a middle name for my DS and he hates it, has always refused to use it (we don’t live in Ireland). I like Lorcan (little fierce one).

Jollyjoy · 19/10/2025 23:53

I love Fergal (probably a dreadful anglicised spelling there so happy to be corrected!)

Darknessoutside · 20/10/2025 00:13

Is Torin Irish? I’ve never heard of it 🤔

me24x · 20/10/2025 00:57

Fiach
Eoin
Darragh
Oscar
Cormac

pumpkinscake · 20/10/2025 07:11

Agree Oisín has a fada so doesn't meet your requirements.

Darknessoutside · 20/10/2025 07:23

Ruairí also has a fada OP.

Darknessoutside · 20/10/2025 07:35

Naoise (Nee-sheh)? Though it’s used for girls now too.
I like Lochlann and Donncha, but the ch won’t get said right in London.
Conall is another fada-less one. It’s said to rhyme with tunnel where I am in Ireland but more like Connell further north (I think).

Onefortheroad25 · 20/10/2025 07:35

Anabellie · 19/10/2025 23:38

Cuan
Poraic

Do you mean Pádraig?

Darknessoutside · 20/10/2025 08:28

Rian (Ree-un) doesn’t need a fada and traditionally didn’t have one (although many seem to add it now?)

Wexone · 20/10/2025 08:34

Onefortheroad25 · 20/10/2025 07:35

Do you mean Pádraig?

can be also padraic

Darknessoutside · 20/10/2025 08:42

Pádraic also has a fada, although it can get left out a lot. Same with Sean, which is really Seán.

AOIFEmissingUalways · 20/10/2025 08:51

Wexone · 20/10/2025 08:34

Yes, but absolutely not Poraic - what an abomination 😩

Wexone · 20/10/2025 08:52

Sorry yes 😅

AOIFEmissingUalways · 20/10/2025 09:21

Wexone · 20/10/2025 08:52

Sorry yes 😅

I have seen it spelled without the D, as Pauraic, but it's much less common in my world (think I only know 1 in person).
