Sibling name thoughts

Firsttimebabymummy · 10/10/2025 16:46

I have an Alexandra and not finding out the sex this time. Would like something recognisable but not too popular, like their sister Alexandra.

We have a long shortlist of girls names but finding boys harder. What are your thoughts on these and do you have any other suggestions please? No L names. Maybe we're too fussy!

Girls, listed in order of current preference
Anastasia
Elizabeth
Adriana / Adrianna (can't decide on spelling?!)
Georgiana / Georgianna (again, spelling?)
Josephine
Samantha
Susannah (but we don't like Susan?)

we quite like Antonia but not sure if we would use.
We like Penelope too but not sure if that's more popular/trendy?

Benjamin
Frederick
Samuel
Joseph
Tobias, can't decide if I like it..
My 2nd favourite boys name is Evander but doesn't really pair with Alexandra. First was Alexander.

Boy names we like but can't use are George, Christopher, Thomas, Joshua and Edward.

How about Georgina? I like Josephine, Anastasia and Frederick.

I think it's spelled Georgiana, but I prefer Georgina
Suggestions
Julian
Elias
Valerian
Gregory
Benedict
Clarence
Roderick
Jeremy

Goandygo · 10/10/2025 17:00

I love Alexandra.
My favourite from your list is Elizabeth.
Susannah is lovely too. I don't think she would get Susan. More Suzie, or even Zannah ?
Others :
Eleanor, Genevieve and Catherine.
I love your boys choices, too.
Others :
Benedict
Dominic
Luke

Goandygo · 10/10/2025 17:02

Oh I love Georgina and Gregory.
Good shout @GoldenRosebee

Yousuns · 10/10/2025 17:03

I like Josephine, Elizabeth and Benjamin best from your list.

How about:

Francesca
Harriet
Henrietta

William
Gabriel
Nathaniel?

Pemba · 10/10/2025 17:15

Georgiana is pronounced George-ee-AH-na, not George-ee-ANNA so it's not just a spelling difference. But like a pp, I prefer Georgina anyway, and it's less of a mouthful.

I like your other girl names. Susannah and Anastasia are gorgeous, but I probably wouldn't do another 'A' name with Alexandra.

Boys' names all good, Tobias probably least favourite though.

Pemba · 10/10/2025 17:20

How about Jacob, Jonathan or Nathaniel?

Just to say it's the same thing with Adriana or Adrianna, the double or single 'N' makes a different ending. Like the ending of marijuana. But maybe you know about that anyway.

Mumofgirls2017 · 10/10/2025 17:27

They all pair well but I’d avoid repeating initials if possible. Love Josephine, Georgiana and Elizabeth with Alexandra. Benjamin, Frederick and Joseph for boys.

I wouldn't use Frederick if you're worried about popularity. He could easily become Fred or Freddie and there are so so many around.
Other boy suggestions:
Jonathan
Matthew
Martin
Nathaniel
Marcus
Edmund (edited from Edward as seen you can't use that!)
Anthony
Stefan

Benjamin is nice.
I like Elizabeth, Josephine, Antonia, Penelope and Susannah.

Moreteaandchocolate · 10/10/2025 17:37

I like all your girls name ideas with Alexandra (does she go by Alex?). Anastasia is nice if you don’t mind the same initial - Annie is nice for short. Elizabeth goes very well too - which shortening were you considering? Alex and Eliza sound good together.

I actually love Georgia rather than Georgiana as people are more likely to use the full name with Georgia, instead of her becoming Georgie / George (or the Georgiana I know actually goes by Jo).

I love all your boys names - can’t choose between them! Maybe Tobias nn Toby.

2025mustbebetter · 10/10/2025 17:41

My girl is Josephine and my friends boy is Tobias so those are my votes!

LivingTheDreamish · 10/10/2025 17:49

I like Elizabeth, Josephine and Antonia to pair with Alexandra - all are strong, elegant names. Also like Antonella. Never really understood why the same initial thing is such a huge problem, but accept there may be a good reason for everyone advising against it.

I like all your boy names, including Tobias but you have to be happy with Toby as nn. Agree Evander won't work but you could use Evan. Also like Edmund unless the reason for swerving Edward would also apply.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 10/10/2025 18:01

My first thought was Anastasia! It is a beautiful name. My second thoughts would be Elizabeth, and possibly Gabrielle/Gabriella or Evangeline.

From your boys' list, I like Joseph. Other suggestions include Henry, Edmund and Aubrey.

Emanwenym · 10/10/2025 18:01

Anastasia - ruined by Disney and Shades of Grey. No
Elizabeth - good
Adriana/Adrianna - no
Georgiana/Georgianna - too long. Georgianna is awful. Georgina is better, Georgia is quite nice. Georgiana too frilly
Josephine - good
Samantha - nice but a bit 1970
Susannah - good but will be Susie (which I like. I also like Susan, despite knowing some unpleasant ones)
Antonia - good but I don't like Toni/Tonia/Ant. No
Penelope - good. Will be Penny

Benjamin - classic but there are lots of Bens
Frederick - there are lots of Freddies
Samuel - good
Joseph - OK. Not keen on Joe
Tobias - Toby is nice. Tobias is just OK
Evander - Awful
Alexander - No, for obvious reasons

Josephine or Elizabeth for a girl.

Benjamin or Frederick for a boy.

All pair perfectly with Alexandra.

CarpetKnees · 10/10/2025 18:07

I really like Josephine - and would give her options of Josie, Jo, Sephie. It has a really similar vibe to Alexandra to me - full name elegant, but shortening also nice and whilst not from any particular decade where massively popular will be recognisable.

Boys, I think Benjamin ticks the same boxes.

Frederick does too, but there are masses of Freds and Freddies around.
If you don't go with Frederick I also like Samuel and Joseph. Both timeless classics.

Monkeysonthebed15 · 10/10/2025 18:08

I love Josephine, as well as Penelope. I like Benjamin and Samuel, but would add Nathaniel to the list. And Matthew.

trainboundfornowhere · 10/10/2025 18:08

Love your names and I prefer the spellings Georgiana, Adriana and Susannah. I know two sisters called Anastasia and Elisabeth and they are known as Ana and Lisa.

If you are wondering about popularity then have a look at behindthename.com The site looks not just at the meaning and etymology of names but also looks at how popular names are and have been in different countries and a list of the most popular names. For England and Wales it gives the top 1000 names for boys and girls as of last year though for some other countries it may only do a top 100, it also gives the percentage of the population that gave that name. It also has message boards and a random renamer function for inspiration or fun.

You've got some lovely names there.

Just a comment though, why are you concerned about them pairing well? There's really a max, and I do mean MAX of 18 years where they will be specifically identified as sibs. And even then, no-one is really going to give it any thought.

From your list I like
Elizabeth and Penelope but love Adrianna. How about Cordelia?

For a boy I really like Benjamin and Joseph. My most favourite boys name in the world is James.

Toomanywaterbottles · 10/10/2025 20:42

I don’t think your boys’ names fit, apart from Frederick. They jar a bit alongside Alexandra.
