Which do you prefer and why?

Anna. Love it!

TheQuirkyPombear · 18/09/2025 09:00

I have used both. My eldest is Anna as my mum was Ann. My third daughter was Emma. So I'm biased x

Comtesse · 18/09/2025 09:02

Anna. There were about 4 Emmas in my class at school so it seems commonplace and a bit dated. Yes yes Jane Austen etc, but Emma is blah.

Katherineryan1986 · 18/09/2025 09:16

Both very boring names. But if I had to choose then I would choose Emma.

Annie is nicer than Anna

what about Amelie?

babyboy520 · 18/09/2025 10:33

Emma, it's beautiful.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 18/09/2025 10:47

@TheQuirkyPombear , surely you picked the names because you liked them, not gave them and then decided to like them.

@Katherineryan1986 , what names aren't boring?

HappydaysArehere · 18/09/2025 11:03

Both lovely but Emma is far more common than Anna. I really like Anna as soft, gentle and as not so overused it has more “poise”.

JaninaDuszejko · 18/09/2025 11:12

This made me laugh because my great aunt (born 1909) was christened Annie but hated it and renamed herself Anna because she thought it was a nicer name.

Poirot1983 · 18/09/2025 11:14

Anna. Slightly softer and I like the Scandinavian-ness.

MsMiniver · 18/09/2025 11:18

Both are classic, tasteful and inoffensive. Anna is a tiny bit posher, Emma is a bit more refined or something. They are much of a muchness.

Yes we loved both names.

Peculiah · 18/09/2025 11:42

Voting for Emma because it’s harder to mispronounce.
Anna = aah-na/ on-a ?

DuchessOfNarcissex · 18/09/2025 11:51

Anna = aah-na/ on-a ? Hmm. I don't think so.

In the UK I've never heard it any other way than 'a' like in apple or cat + 'uh'. I know it's different in the Frozen movies but I still don't think there are any real pronunciation issues in the UK, there are too many real life Annas.

familyissues12345 · 18/09/2025 11:57

Meh

Mainly because one is mine, and it’s just dull.

The other is my nieces name, it suits her!

I’m an Emma, my friend is Anna. We both find our names a bit dull. I was about 1 of 15 Emma’s in my school year. I don’t hate my name, I wouldn’t want to change it but there are so many nicer names out there to choose from.

Not unless you’re a 6 year old obsessed with frozen

MichelleCancelled · 18/09/2025 13:34

Emma, one of mine is Emma, loved it since primary school.

Shmee1988 · 18/09/2025 13:36

Im an Emma and if I have a daughter, she will likely be Anna.

BashfulClam · 18/09/2025 13:39

Emma is nicer but both are really dull.

luckylavender · 18/09/2025 13:39

Anna. Classic & more unusual

user2848502016 · 18/09/2025 13:53

Emma for me, I think it’s prettier and Anna is quite popular at the moment too
