Which do you prefer and why?

They’re both so dull.

MyOtherProfile · 16/09/2025 22:56

I also went to school with several Emmas and it feels dated to me. Anna is timeless and elegant without being too fancy.

Calliopespa · 16/09/2025 23:01

Both quite nice though somehow Emma is a bit personality-less to me. It seems like a name a parent chooses if they don't trust their own choices.

IndigoBluey · 17/09/2025 00:06

I don’t like either but Anna over Emma. For me, Emma is overused and most of the ones I know are 40 plus so seems to be one of those tiresome names that are rebounding back and will be common. It’s also massively common in the US for baby girls name so in a few years it would be like being Stacey / Ashley / Morgan / Brittany

Both very dull and boring I'm afraid. So many nicer names to choose.

Marcipix · 17/09/2025 00:10

I think Anna is more elegant.
Emma is nice but I prefer Emily.

BlackCoffeeAndSugar · 17/09/2025 00:15

Anna. It's our top girls name.

Sixtimesnow · 17/09/2025 00:17

Emma. A timeless classic.

MCF86 · 17/09/2025 00:19

I prefer Emma, but that may be entirely swayed by people I know with each name. Both are nice enough.

I was actually between Emily and Hannah before I knew I was having a boy. The similarity has amused me a little.

MCF86 · 17/09/2025 00:25

fwiw I work with children and I don't feel like Emma has ever gone away, so I don't find it dated. It's like Thomas and Daniel in the boys camp - popular when I was a child and then just steadily been enough of them ever since that it's not unusual. I know we currently have one in y1, and one in y3.
Annas we have in y1 and y2, plus an Annabel and an Ana(stasia).

Wynter25 · 17/09/2025 00:37

Emma

Anna

Seacatt · 17/09/2025 00:46

Emma, but I do like both.

user1492757084 · 17/09/2025 02:24

Love both Anna and Emma.

Anna is my fave.

BoleynMemories13 · 17/09/2025 06:33

Anna is ok. Classic but never a personal favourite of mine.

I much prefer Emma. It just has more personality about it somehow (far from 'dull' imo).

Calliopespa · 17/09/2025 07:56

If going for Emma, I'd give it a bit more "body" by making it short for Emmeline, or at least Emily. I quite like the European spelling Emilie or even Emilia.

But I just think Emma is a bit ... blah.

Bbq1 · 17/09/2025 08:20

Anne
Much nicer than Anna

indoorplantqueen · 17/09/2025 08:24

I like both. Both lovely classic names.

KayEmAy · 17/09/2025 19:52

both are lovely but I've been Team Emma since childhood

Thousandstarsyes · 17/09/2025 22:09

i still cannot decide!

Emma, because there are loads of Annas that are 0 - 10, but far fewer Emmas. It is just easier / nicer not to be one of 2 or 3 in every class or group you are in throughout life.

Both perfectly nice names.

Emma has been significantly more popular than Anna in England and Wales over the last 10 years:

I like both but prefer Anna, lovely name.
