Louie Lennie

So far we only have one boys name that we both love, Louie. But I'm not sure on it when paired with our preferred middle name, Lennie (family connection)? Please can you share your honest thoughts, struggling with a decision. Thank you!

Definitely not. I love them both separately but not together.

Yellowbirdcage · 02/08/2025 05:51

Louie is fine although prefer spelling Louis.
Middle names are entirely irrelevant. Nice to honour family but otherwise what does it matter?
I assume you’re not going to refer to him as Louie-Lennie!

AtlasPine · 02/08/2025 05:54

Have it if you want it but they’re both nick names and very similar. Like Micky Mack or Henry Harry.

Todaystoast · 02/08/2025 05:54

Could you add another middle name in between? It could be anything. Louie Samuel Lennie. Louie Max Lennie.

GoFaster83 · 02/08/2025 06:05

I agree with @Todaystoast. Stick another middle name (ive got two) to split up the Louie and the Lennie. Maybe a family name or your maiden name if you have changed it. Louie is a very cute name. I never had children but it was on my list if I had!

Weathere · 02/08/2025 06:24

Thank you. I do like the idea of adding an extra middle name too. We have a son already who has one middle name and I just wonder if he will feel somehow put out!

It's so much easier thinking of names for other people! :)

Personally I would either ditch the Lennie or add another name to blend it, such as Louie Oliver Lennie

SprayWhiteDung · 02/08/2025 06:27

Only have both together if your surname happens to be CoolJ Grin

curious79 · 02/08/2025 06:31

It’s a mouthful but realistically how often will the full set of names ever be used in day to day life?

Linenpickle · 02/08/2025 06:33

Nope

Limonades · 02/08/2025 07:22

Louie Leonard?

NeverAlways · 02/08/2025 07:23

Not keen on Lennie sorry and not with Louie.

Louie is not a nickname/abbreviation.

@WeathereIt’s a bit sing songy, Louie Leonard sounds a bit better if that fits with your family connection. But who am i to talk, i called my daughter Anna Alice!

I much prefer the spelling Louis (silent s), like all the French kings.

StrawberryCranberry · 02/08/2025 08:12

But at least with Anna Alice the two names don't sound the same, they just have the same first letter.

TizerorFizz · 02/08/2025 08:25

My girls have three forenames. They like being a bit different. I’d put a longer name in the middle eg Alexander, Dominic, Edward, William, even James! The two names suggested need an anchor in the middle.

sciaticafanatica · 02/08/2025 09:32

You are honestly overthinking this.
a middle name is pointless and rarely used.
so go with what you love

BeMellowAquaSquid · 02/08/2025 09:35

My first thought would be a prospective nickname when older Lou-ney (Loonie)

Moreteaandchocolate · 02/08/2025 09:52

Louie is lovely and Lenny is nice too. I agree with others to add another middle name. Or go for Louie Laurence or similar (if this is close enough to Lenny?)

i came on to say this

TizerorFizz · 02/08/2025 10:09

@sciaticafanatica I had around 12 names I really liked. Not 2. Having a bit of personality in a name is great.

sciaticafanatica · 02/08/2025 10:14

@TizerorFizzyes I get that. But in life no one ever gives a shiny shit about middle names.
they are used on forms and identification not in everyday conversations.
call your child whatever you like and has meaning to you but in the real world no one actually uses them or cares.

TizerorFizz · 02/08/2025 10:19

I use my middle name! It’s quite normal to feel ownership of all your names. My DDs use their first names but one uses a middle name for some social media. They own all their names and DM had 4. We like names. However the child might just like using another name! Also initials are used - having 3 is quite nice!

Moreteaandchocolate · 02/08/2025 12:04

I’ve noticed that my teen daughter and her friends use their first and middle names instead of their first and surnames on social media, so middle names are becoming more important than they used to be.

I think that's what I'd do.

I know its not your intention at all, but I think together it has a slightly demeaning effect. It's in the same bag as storybook or cartoon characters like Milly-Molly-Mandy or Minnie Mouse.

And if the other son really does get put out, you can explain it was to break up the sing-song effect of the two together.
