Louie Lennie

So far we only have one boys name that we both love, Louie. But I'm not sure on it when paired with our preferred middle name, Lennie (family connection)? Please can you share your honest thoughts, struggling with a decision. Thank you!

Stick to two names in total.
Louie Lennie I would not use, personally.

Options ..
Louis Lennox
Louis Lennard

LucasBuck · 02/08/2025 15:07

I looks so much better spelt as Louis Lennie, but obviously it will still sound sing songy. I agree adding another middle name between will solve it. Btw I have 2 middle names and my sibling has only 1 - it’s never been an issue for us (our middle names are all family names so that’s the link, my parents just liked the flow better with 2 for me).

Middle names are never used so what difference does it make

Novanonplus · 02/08/2025 16:11

I don’t see it as a problem whatsoever
I like it

stample · 02/08/2025 16:16

Actually know someone who called their son Lennie louis tbf…

Emanwenym · 02/08/2025 16:37

Louie Lennie
Louie is not good. Louis is OK.
I like Lenny.
I'd swap the names round and have Lennie Louis or Lenny Something.

Don't add another middle name. Either own the Louie Lennie or choose something else.

Calliopespa · 02/08/2025 18:47

The more this thread pops up on my phone op, the more I think Louie Lenny sounds like the Ronald McDonald equivalent of a lemondade company. 🍋

Calliopespa · 02/08/2025 18:51

... with a jingle like: "The secret's in the way it's made: drink Louie Lenny's lemonaaaade!"

DappledThings · 02/08/2025 18:55

Louis not Louie. If it was first name I'd say go with Leonard and ability to shorten it later but he's unlikely to change to going by his middle name so I'd be less bothered about that being a proper name.

Louis Leonard sounds better than Louis Lenny but how often are you going to use the middle name? Hardly ever so it's fine.

Daffodilsarefading · 04/08/2025 08:21

I would use Louis rather than Louie but Louis Lennie doesn’t work for me.

Calliopespa · 04/08/2025 11:53

I never really understand the "how often will you use a middle name" comments. I mean if it has to be kept under wraps, why even have it?

I think Louie Lenny runs the risk of your DC being pretty disappointed by your choice OP. I wouldn't have liked that sort of name. They are so similar: why not just go with Lenny?

pennypans · 04/08/2025 11:54

Louis is nicer

Thank you. I do like the idea of adding an extra middle name too. We have a son already who has one middle name and I just wonder if he will feel somehow put out!

It's so much easier thinking of names for other people! :)

Just tell him you couldnt afford 2 names when he was born

OneNeatBlueOrca · 04/08/2025 12:04

Id spell it Louis and give another middle name.

I cant imagine Louie Lennie on a grown man

Pinty · 04/08/2025 14:16

If you like Louis go with that but spell it Louis not Louie.
If you also want Lenny then you should give him three names so there is a name in-between Louis and Lenny.

Emanwenym · 04/08/2025 14:17

@Calliopespa , it's not that they are kept under wraps, they just don't get used much.
Think of the people you know or anyone famous and chances are you'll think firstname surname not full name. Without looking, would you know the middle name(s) of
Justine Roberts
Jeff Bezos
Elon Musk
Keir Starmer
Yvette Cooper
Angela Rayner
Kemi Badenoch
Kylie Minogue
Michael Middleton
Prince Edward
Teresa May
Gordon Brown
Tony Blair
David Cameron
Victoria/David Beckham
Wayne/Coleen Rooney
Charlotte Tilbury
Trinny Woodall
David Tennant
Stephen Graham
Daniel Craig
Ariana Grande
Sabrina Carpenter
Gary Barlow
Gary Lineker
...?

Oh sorry, I didn't realise you were actually asking.

I did, in fact, know Charles Lynton for Blair.

And I also knew Prince Edward had Richard tucked in there, and I do remember Prince Andrew is Albert Christian Edward because I quite like that combination.

But no, not most of the others - some of them I had to think twice to even know them by the names you used: what on earth made you think of Trinny after all these years?!

Lineker, Barlow, Victoria, Colleen etc aren't really on my radar... From my perspective you've chosen people I wouldn't know much about full stop.

But people on my radar I do know. EM Forster is Edward Morgan, Tolkien was John Ronald Ruel, and Virginia Woolf was in fact named Adeline and used her middle name.

Knowing the names of public figures wasn't really what I meant however - given the likelihood is that OP's dc wont be (as most of us aren't). I DO know the middle names of plenty of my friend's dc, many of my friends and all of my cousins.

I was really thinking of it being used at christenings, birth announcements, weddings and when your parents are very cross (still remember my friend's mum saying crisply: Felicity Jane!") etc - which is surely when it matters more than having random people on MN haul up your name and ask other randoms if they know it?

Calliopespa · 04/08/2025 16:56

Oh - and Winston Churchill was Leonard Spencer!

DramaAlpaca · 04/08/2025 17:02

Not Louie Lennie; it honestly sounds a bit silly.

Louie Leonard as others have suggested is much better. The spelling Louis Leonard with the diminutive Louie would be really good, I like it a lot.

I also agree with those who've suggested another middle name between Louie and Lennie if you really want to use those.

It does sound a little silly op.

The Leonard helps a lot, as would something quite different in between to break it up.

But Louie and Lenny are so similar could you not just honour the family link by going with Lenny?

I have 3 boys, 2 have one middle name and one has two. Trust me, blokes dont give it a second thought! Never been mentioned.

Emanwenym · 04/08/2025 17:52

@Calliopespa , they were just a brain dump of names and looking them up was tedious. I could remember some of them but only a few. (e.g. I could remember that it was Something Lynton, and the David Donald but not that there was a William in there)
I can remember friends' from childhood, one from a wedding, and one from christenings. The one I remember is because my friend said she didn't like the Mae spelling.
Half of my cousins don't have middle names, and I only remember some of their children's middle names.
I remember my niblings' middle names.

My parents never used our middle names when telling us off, but would say 'firstname surname'.

Trinny gets mentioned in S&B regularly.

I wasn't really asking, but they do seem a bit irrelevant, unless you have such a common first and last name that the middle one gets used. James Wilson and James Brown are a bit forgettable for politicians.

Namesheardinthewild · 04/08/2025 19:00

How often are you going to be saying the first and middle name together? My DC has two middle names because we couldn’t agree. But in reality it doesn’t matter because we never use her full name 😅 my friend has a name that rhymes but again, she never uses her full name so we only found out recently 🤷‍♀️ do what you like OP ❤️

SallySummerPop · 06/08/2025 16:24

It's nice sounding good strong name that works well together.
