Winifred as official name on birth certificate but use Winnie day to day.

Winifred Eloise
Winifred Faye
Winifred Dawn
Winifred Suzanne
Winifred Kate

We have a Winifred Elisabeth, Winnie (or Win) for short.

Glitchymn1 · 30/07/2025 04:46

The Pooh?

My aunt’s name is Winifred, she’s 88 and has used her middle name for years.

user1492757084 · 30/07/2025 06:53

My friend Winifred used her middle name, Mary.
Give her a middle name that she can use if Winifred is not her style.
Winifred has a very stern sentiment about it so choose a softer musical second name.

Winifred Ann
Winifred Lola
Winifred Cleo
Winifred Jane
Winifred Louise
Winifred Sophie
Winifred Angelica

I don’t like Winifred, but think Winnie is a bit twee as a standalone name - how about Winona?

If it’s definitely between Winifred and Winnie, I’d choose Winnie as I can’t imagine many teen girls thanking you for having Winifred called out on the register in secondary school!

Winnie Elizabeth
Winnie Matilda
Winnie Sophia
Winnie Olivia
Winnie Jemima
Winnie Amelia
Winnie Isabella
Winnie Gabriella
Winnie Annabella

Winifred Violet

suburburban · 30/07/2025 07:35

I really don’t like it and it is old fashioned

breakfastdinnerandtea · 30/07/2025 07:37

My Nan is called Winifred and despises her name. I like the idea suggested above of Winona instead.
My children have fairly unusual first names so picked a traditional middle name in case that’s what they preferred.

Wynter25 · 30/07/2025 07:39

My daughter is called Wynter. Nn Wynnie

Wynter25 · 30/07/2025 07:39

I like your suggestion 😊

Berlinlover · 30/07/2025 07:41

I’m in Ireland and have only ever heard the name Winnie being used by the traveller community.

Holdingonfornow · 30/07/2025 07:42

one of those names which sound to me like a euphemism for a body part…. Like fanny.
or a name for a hippo.

Jessbow · 30/07/2025 08:06

My ( older) friend is Winifred, known as fred or more usually Freddie

In Ireland too and was just about to post the same.

The Wonder Years - the Winnie character was very beautiful and her full name was Gwendolyn.

My aunt had Winifred as a middle name, I don't think she liked it. If she was still with us, she'd be over 100.

Im in Ireland as well and do actually know a Winnie. No traveller background.

I’ve actually just read a book where the main characters name is Winnie and there’s something about the name that just doesn’t “flow” for me.

Limonades · 30/07/2025 09:22

I though it was a man’s name, but maybe that’s Winfred. Really don’t like it.

YYYDlilah · 30/07/2025 09:34

Winifred is a girl's name, @Limonades . Saint Winifred - Wikipedia
@mnforadvice , I like Winifred, Winona and Winnie.

BootballJoy · 30/07/2025 10:15

Winifred is more popular these days round here, I quite like it. I'd go Winifred Lucy, Winifred Ruby, Winifred Sophie, Winifred Phoebe, Winifred Mary kind of thing.

miniaturepixieonacid · 30/07/2025 12:36

I'm not keen on Winifred but I do think Winnie needs a longer name as it's a name a lot of people don't like the sound of (horse's whinny, sounds like whiny, kids might link it to Willie) and she might not want to use it when she gets older so I feel like she needs options.

I like a pps suggestion of Winona over Winifred. Or even Wynter as another pp said though I feel like that wouldn't naturally get shortened by most.

Winifred Elora
Winifred Marianne
Winifred Clarice
Winona Kate
Winona Annemarie
Winona Camille
Wynter Rose

Duckyfondant · 30/07/2025 12:45

Winona is very cool. Sorry, I know that's not what you asked OP

cofffeeee · 30/07/2025 13:06

Love the name winnie.

marshmallowfinder · 30/07/2025 13:06

Frumpy. Awful name I'm afraid.

Yes, you’re right.

Winfred is a boys name.

MoggetsCollar · 30/07/2025 14:24

I really think there are too many ways Winnie can go wrong (Winnie the poo(h), whiney winnie etc) and Winifred is super frumpy.

I'd go Winona or Winter or Gwyneth and use 'Win' for a nn out and Winnie just at home.

I like Freddy for a girl, so might go Winifred if I was looking to use Freddy all the time.
