Constance or Pippa?

Constance (Connie) or Pippa (Pip)?

Interested in others opinions… we aren’t keen on Phillipa, so Pippa would be the full name. We genuinely love them both and can’t pick a favourite.

Don’t really like Constance but Connie is lovely. Not keen on Pippa

Stripeysockspots · 22/07/2025 22:41

Don't do pippa. Philippa and then pippa.

Myfridgeiscool · 22/07/2025 22:41

Love Pippa

Makingpeace · 22/07/2025 22:42

Love Pippa. 👌😍

lottiegarbanzo · 22/07/2025 22:42

Very different names. Pippa is lovely but ‘light’ whereas Constance is a much more ‘heavyweight’ serious name.

RandomMess · 22/07/2025 22:42

Philomena I’d you don’t like Philipa?

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 22/07/2025 22:44

@lottiegarbanzo I agree, I think Connie and Pippa are both light as you accurately described! Constance is definitely more ‘harsh’ but in a feminine way I think…!?

@RandomMess I do like that actually!

I was advised not to give names to my kids that they couldn’t have a serious job with 🙄 I disregarded that and did that I wanted. So 2 of them have “serious names” and one doesn’t. But I love it so who cares

lottiegarbanzo · 22/07/2025 22:48

Do you love Constance or Connie? Wondering if there are other ways of arriving at Connie e.g Cornelia. Or something similar-sounding like Camille (Cami), or Callie - Callista, Calliope.

le0pardqueen · 22/07/2025 22:50

I have a Constance and she refuses to have it shortened to Connie, although she does occasionally answer to Coco! So many people have commented to us on how much they love the name Constance.

PhaseFour · 22/07/2025 22:52

Constance is beautiful, I think. Up there with Florence, but a lot less used than Florence.
Connie is a great nickname. I prefer Constance to Philipa and Connie to Pippa.

I also prefer Philomena to Philipa, but both are nice names.

lottiegarbanzo · 22/07/2025 22:53

But I like the virtue meaning of Constance.

JillyGiraffe · 22/07/2025 22:58

Pippa was the name at the top of my list for my first if he’d been a girl - that is until I told my Polish friend and she laughed! It sounds very similar to a rude term that’s spelt without one of the ‘p’s…

Constance was my first choice for a girl and would’ve been Connie I think it’s so lovely

Sogrownup3 · 22/07/2025 23:01

I love pip short for pippin - but also love Connie so can't help you there I'm afraid! Beautiful names!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm1 · 22/07/2025 23:01

constance sounds like incontinence and pippa is like peppa

TourdeFrance2025 · 22/07/2025 23:06

Pippa

its cute when they're little & it's a name you can be 'serious' with & takes you through all of the stages in life xx

LucasBuck · 23/07/2025 00:38

Constance is pretty - quite elegant. I do like Philippa even more, but no point if you hate it. Sorry, I’m not keen on Connie or maybe even Pippa as I’m one of those that finds most nicknames as given names a bit insubstantial sounding or too “cute” for me (though for some reason some single syllable ones do seem the exception to this - Tess, Gwen, Kate, Jack, Max etc)

SnowFrogJelly · 23/07/2025 00:51

Pippa

SnowFrogJelly · 23/07/2025 00:51

Connie awful

NuffSaidSam · 23/07/2025 00:56

I think I prefer Constance.

Although I also like Pippa.

I think it's nice to have the full name and cutsey nickname so for that reason I'd go for Constance.

Also, Pippa is a slang term for wank/sex in some language I believe (I think wank in Italian and sex in Swedish?).

Moreteaandchocolate · 23/07/2025 07:44

I love Pippa. I would use as short for Philippa in case she wanted to avoid the unfortunate meaning of Pippa in some countries! But your idea of Pip for short might get round that issue if ever needed.

I find Connie a bit “cutesy” and Constance and bit “strict” sounding!

I’d choose Pippa 😊

Cheeseplantandcrackers · 23/07/2025 07:47

Both are lovely but I prefer Constance.
Pippa is beautiful but sounds like a nickname already.

Limonades · 23/07/2025 08:04

Constance Marten has ruined the name for me unfortunately
