DH is obsessed with the came Cassia. What does everyone else think? We had Cassius on our middle names list for DS2 (not brave/cool enough for it as a first name). He has a very specific taste in names which has made naming our boys very difficult, but we are finding naming a girl even harder. I don't think I have a 'style' I just like what I like, I think.

He also likes Cordelia, Maxima and Valeria. I don't hate any of them but they sound a bit pretentious and I'd worry about the judgement of others honestly - we don't live in a particularly 'cool' or affluent area where people use all sorts of unusual names. Children in our son's school are mostly Amelia, Harper, Olivia, Grace, Millie/Lily/Tilly, Oliver, Isaac, Harrison, Harry, Jack, etc.

I like June and Maggie (maybe Magdalena? DH would never go for just Maggie or Margaret). I can't seem to really like any others, which is unhelpful.

Boys names we liked were Magnus, Raphael, Victor, Conrad, Oswin, Bram, Laurence, Leander, Cassius, Aurelius. DH also fought hard for Casimir. I liked Asa.

Cassiopeia?

Cassia just sounds unfinished.

I quite like Cassia! Haven’t heard it as a baby name before but it’s not too out there and could imagine someone in my child’s class with the name!

My friends 2 year old is Cassia, it's a great name 😊

minipie · 07/07/2025 20:44

Cassia is that cheaper cinnamon substitute isn’t it?

Agree Saskia could be a better alternative. There’s also Cassandra if you want Cassie nn but it has tragic associations.

If he likes classical sounding names then Phoebe, Chloe, Daphne, Diana, Julia, Livia, Cecilia, Aurora?

ImAPreMadonna · 07/07/2025 20:45

Penelope
Seraphine
Madeleine

YES IT IS. DH has never heard of it so doesn't think anyone else will have either so I'm so glad someone mentioned it!

I think DH will like Saskia and I quite like it too. I think the rest may be a bit too normal for him but I will suggest!

You can suggest Juniper and call her June or Marigold (Goldie/Maggie).

How about Rory (short for Lorelai, Aurora, or Gloria)

May be Victoria?

Cassia sounds like a plant to me.

My 20 year old had a Cassia in her class.

Partystreamers · 07/07/2025 22:33

It's cinnamon bark. But I guess lots are named after plants.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 07/07/2025 22:35

I love Cassia, and Cassie as a nn

Cassius and Caspar are very popular (although I prefer Cassian to either) - so
if certainly doesn’t read as very out there - very much in the same league as Saskia (and is a bloody sight better than the ghastly Harper)
