What would you suggest goes well with Alexander as a middle name? Current contenders are Thomas, Robert, James...

Alexander is such a staple, timeless name that I think it goes well with most names tbh. Thomas, Robert, & James are all equally good.

Although with such a classic first name, if you have a name that you love but think might be a bit 'much' as a first name, the middle would be an ideal place to put it.

I’ve always loved Alexander and James so they would be my choice, but most things go.
I like one syllable middle names when the first names are longer.

Love Alexander. I think Edward goes well x

caringcarer · 27/06/2025 20:58

I think Thomas, James or John all go well.

naomicrobiome · 27/06/2025 20:58

My first thought was David.

Emanwenym · 27/06/2025 20:59

Not James because it's the go to boy's middle name, and unless you have an unusual surname he could end up with a common full name.

I like AJ: Alexander James!

But I agree you could be a bit more adventurous with a “ safe” first name.

jill5676 · 28/06/2025 08:12

Thanks for these suggestions! Some I don't like (Alexander Ptolemy is definitely not for us!) and I wouldn't use Boris because I just think Johnson but will look over the others.
Quite like Owen or Edward. I don't think DH would be up for anything unusual but you never know. Our daughter has two classic names so we'll probably stick on the more traditional end tbh! Isaac also a nice choice.

Depends what sort of thing you want. James, Thomas etc commonly used so could be seen as boring. but will be classic and not date.
