What’s your opinion on the name Hannah?

Bonus points for middle name suggestions too

I like it, it was on our shortlist for girls. Not much not to like about it.

Steakbreake · 18/06/2025 11:33

I like it

Coffeeishot · 18/06/2025 11:36

I like it it's timeless the Hannahs i know are 84 30 and 12, not from the same family either. I probably would go for middle name that means something to you.

DiamondThrone · 18/06/2025 11:37

There seemed to be a lot around who would be about twenty five now.

Mines almost 23! 😂

Hollyhobbi · 18/06/2025 11:53

I know a 21 year old Hannah.

BootballJoy · 18/06/2025 11:54

I've always much preferred Anna. My mum used to say Hannah was an old lady's name and she couldn't understand how popular it became in the 80s! I've never liked the H bits.

24Dogcuddler · 18/06/2025 11:56

Beautiful if you don’t like somewhere where they don’t pronounce the H
My cousin had a baby years ago and an elderly aunt told us “ she’s calling her Anna with an aitch “

24Dogcuddler · 18/06/2025 11:57

Live not like oops

See for me it would be the other way round! Anna seems like an older ladies name to me than Hannah for some reason!

I do like it, but I like Anna more - which is not 'older lady' at all, it's timeless. It's generally liked a lot when suggested in this section.

Hannah has been popular for years, probably less popular right now. I think maybe it peaked in the 80s. I was born in the 60s and didn't go to school with any Hannahs. However I can remember my auntie, pregnant in the early 70s, telling my mum she was considering Hannah for the baby. She would have been one of the first!

(said cousin is 51 now and her parents went with Victoria in the end, very 70s!)

Thank you. I do quite like Anna too. A couple of comments on here as given me a seed of doubt about Hannah because I can imagine people may end up thinking it’s Anna anyway.

It’s lovely - one of those timeless names that don’t imply any age for its holder. I’m in the prefer Anna (which I think of as similarly timeless) camp, but you clearly aren’t so my preference is irrelevant.

TakeMyLifeAndLetItBe · 18/06/2025 12:35

It's a gorgeous name, I have a toddler one 😁 not met any other girls the same age with the same name.

poolcabana · 18/06/2025 12:35

I have a friend who called her lovely daughter Hannah. It’s a beautiful name. She never had anyone confuse it with Anna and was never called Anna. If you love the name I would use it.

That's funny, that's what my auntie said in 1971! 😁

But I think enough people are familiar with the name Hannah now that that wouldn't happen much. Apart from the people who never say their 'H' s I suppose.

So if Hannah is what you love I would just go with it. It's a nice simple name for a little girl to learn to write too.

Coffeeishot · 18/06/2025 12:40

Hannah and Anna have different tones or maybe i mean flow,? you can absolutely hear the difference.

Hannah has a softer sound to it.

CaramelEmporium · 18/06/2025 12:41

I have a tween Hannah. She’s the only one in the school. Obviously I think it’s a lovely name. Classic.

CaramelEmporium · 18/06/2025 12:41

Never been confused with Anna either.

I'm a Hannah age 42! I like my name, it's familiar but not overused. It's never been confused with Anna.

I think a variety of middle names go, short or longer, but would avoid another name ending in the aah sound:

Hannah Rose
Hannah Elizabeth
Hannah Jane
Hannah Isobel
Hannah Margaret
Hannah Florence
