Thoughts on the name Taya for a girl?

Middle name would be Louise

Awful. Is it Tay-a or Ta-ya? Louise is nice but a filler middle name.

My oldest daughter (9) is Taya and I absolutely loved it from the moment I first heard it. We’ve only ever met a couple of other Tayas and most of them are spelt differently.

I like it! Is it said Taya or Tie-a? Lovely either way and so unusual.

I think it's fine. Not for me, but I've heard much worse. I think it's one of those that you wouldn't really think about either way.

Very pretty. Taya is a variant of Thea isn’t it? (because afaik Thea in parts of Europe can be pronounced “Tay-ah”, just like Theo can be “Tay -oh”) . But while I generally hate spelling changes, I do think your spelling makes the pronunciation you want clearer. Or at least it does to me, but clearly some pp feel differently 🤣. I do prefer the look of similar Theia (“Thay-ah”) but that’s just personal taste.

I like it as it’s not overly common but not too wacky either. My other favourite names are all super popular (Sophia, Olivia, Lily etc).

In the film Sleuth, Téa is the mistress of Andrew (Laurence Olivier) who is spoken about but never seen! She is the owner of a Finnish Sauna!

I don't know how it's pronounced and never heard it before. It sounds a bit down-market tbh.
Tia, Tara, Tana, Tamsin, Taylor, Tansy, Tessa for example I prefer.
It's certainly unique I guess.

There are likely multiple origins and etymologies for this name, but Taya as a "modern Hebrew" name is the transliteration of the Hebrew תאיה, which in turn is an acronym for תוצרת ארץ ישראל היפה (Made in the Beautiful Land of Israel). It's one of the "modern Hebrew" names created in the wake of Israeli statehood in 1948 and would generally be considered old fashioned in Israel now, but has been used more recently by (mostly US, I think) fundamentalist Christians - probably referring to a metaphorical rather than a geographical Israel in that case.

It's ok. I've met one (bonkers girl!). It hadn't really occurred to me that it could be an English rendering of European pronunciations of Thea / Théa but that makes sense. I think I'd prefer it spelled Théa tbh - it would also avoid the 'tie-a' confusion.

Oh but I suppose it would then cause new confusion with the 'th'!

Taeya is worse. Is the ae like in head, Rae, or Caesar?

While I’m a usually a fan of more classic names myself, I don’t think Taya is popular/well known enough to have any downmarket or other problematic connotations personally- she’ll likely be the only one most people ever meet unless it suddenly takes off.

And all the Maya’s out there seem to survive the “May-ah” or “My-ah” confusion we have here in the UK. I can’t see the name causing her any real problems - in fact the only annoyance might be if there’s also a Thea in her class (but that’s the risk with all these quite similar 2 syllable “ee” or “ah” ending names that are popular/trendy at the moment eg. Mia/Mila/Maya, Lila/Lyra/Layla, Ava/Ada/Ayla etc).
