Thanks to this forum me and my husband ended up with these 3 names so far. We are Ukrainian/Italian family living in Italy.
We are choosing between:
Alexander-Alex-Sasha
Mikhail-Misha (Michele -Italian version which seems too italian for me).
Alexey-Alex-Alyosha

I would like the name to be slavic but be recognised easily around the world, have international form, be modern and appropriate as the baby grows. Which would you vote for? thank you

Ivan (Vanya) might work otherwise as I believe Ivan/Ivano are used a bit in Italy.

I wanted to be able to use Sasha and Misha as they have a clear reference to my country…

To be honest oP it’s hard because we are giving feedback that might be very culturally different but both Sasha and Misha sound very much like girl names to Anglophobe ears ( as in Mischa Barton). I know they aren’t originally but we wouldn’t be being honest if we didn’t say that.

The good thing about nicknames is you can have several. Sasha and Misha could be used more within your family. They can also, of course, be used in English, but as people have said, they have a more feminine feel in English. I'm not sure about Italy.

So Mikhail could be Misha to you and Mike to his English friends later in life.

I think they are all great. I personally love the name Михаил and especially Миша. It is one of my favourite names. People may not pronounce it properly though. All lovely names though and I wouldn’t worry too much these days about the cultural differences, at my kids’ schools there are names from all over the world.
