It was very hopeful to hear the opinions on the slavic names. Now I have two more in my mind but something doesn’t feel right about them, although I like how Conrad fits with the last name which starts with Ca… and has a soft feeling… is it too outdated? And what could be a nickname for that? Thank you

They both sound quite dated to me, but it depends how important that is to you? They’re not dated in a bad way, they’re classics that aren’t currently popular.

summerscomingsoon · 05/06/2025 19:18

Mark is awful. Dated 60s 70s english name.

Conrad is better though not one I'd choose but if it's relevant to your heritage and you like it then go for it

Springadorable · 05/06/2025 19:28

Mark is a terrible name. Very dated, no real saving graces. Conrad isn't to my taste but I wouldn't say it's dated as such. Also not typically British.

Emanwenym · 05/06/2025 19:59

Mark was very popular in the 1960s and 1970s. I like both of them.

Lollapaloozah · 05/06/2025 20:07

Mark can also be called Marky, Marco, Marcus or Markus.
Mark by itself is a simple name, oh well used name, maybe not so much today.
Conrad I only knew one Conrad and he was an 80 year old man which means nothing because it's a nice enough name but you must consider that one nickname that springs to mind would be Con.
The man I knew named Conrad was called 'Connie' by his fellow military servicemen, not sure how you would feel about that for your DS.

Financialthymes · 05/06/2025 20:09

I remember a young man called Conrad who was on a creative writing course with me in the early 00s. I thought it was a brilliant name - really strong and unusual. I’ve never met anyone since with that name.

Michele09 · 05/06/2025 20:10

I was at secondary school in the 80s and we had a lot of Marks and a Conrad so they feel dated to me.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/06/2025 20:14

If I counted up, I have probably known more than 50 Marks in my lifetime. I'm not sure I've ever met a Conrad. I would say Conrad would be a good choice.

QuickPeachPoet · 05/06/2025 20:16

Would you consider Marcus? Great name

JuneShellChangeHerTune · 05/06/2025 20:18

The only Conrad I’ve ever met or heard of is Conrad Phillips, who played William Tell on TV in the late 50s. I’ve taught several Marks.

At least both names are easy to spell and hard to misspell, apart from Mark which could be Marc, I suppose.

MidnightPatrol · 05/06/2025 20:19

I’d assume Mark was Conrad’s dad

Ninkynonkpinkyponks · 05/06/2025 20:20

I really like them both. Mark is a solid classic name. Makes me think of mark darcy from Bridget jones :)

Christwosheds · 05/06/2025 20:21

Mark is a biblical name and has had periods of popularity, it is a classic really. The Marks I’ve known have mainly been very posh , and older than 60s 70s kids. Brother had one friend called Mark in the 70s at school, born in the 60s.
Conrad sounds very American to me, I prefer Mark. I like it a lot.

Whyjustwhy83 · 05/06/2025 20:22

Both names are fine mark is a little dated I like Conrad better. There's a character in the summer I turned pretty called Conrad and his nickname is Connie I think it's cute.

Whataloadoffuss · 05/06/2025 20:22

The only time I have heard of a Conrad was on the drama series, The Resident. I prefer it to Mark. They are both names you like op, and it is subjective.

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 05/06/2025 20:34

i don't think I've ever known or met a Conrad. When I think of someone called Conrad, no age group comes to mind at all. I'm in my fifties and there are lots of Marks my age and a bit younger. It was massively popular in the 70s, one of those boys whose mates were called Dave, Paul, Steve and Gary.

KnewYearKnewMe · 05/06/2025 20:37

The only Conrad I know is extremely posh and extremely lovely.

im watching Mobland at the moment - Pierce Brosnan’s psycho aged gangster character is called Conrad!

ASuitableName · 05/06/2025 20:37

I think Conrad is a great name and very underused. I also like Mark, it was popular when I was growing up. I prefer Marcus though.

Why do you like it? I am trying to understand as at some point I liked it and then I got so much scared of it…

I think of this too!

I like Mark... but really like Marcus (only met 1 and thought it was a cool, underused name)
Also like Conrad.

Beyondburnout · 05/06/2025 20:50

. I loved a book in primary school called conrad the factory made boy, so sweet.

Enko · 05/06/2025 20:52

Ds is Conrad so obviously I love the name. I like the its well know but not common part.
My Conrad likes his name. And. In his early 20s have only met 1 other (dad of a friend)

Did he have troubles introducing himself or any other problems with people confusing it?
thank you

No in fact we have often had possitive comments. It is a marmite name as you will see on this thread. However to me that makes it better. 😁

BethDuttonYeHaw · 05/06/2025 21:01

Mark is ok

Conrad is really pretentious
