Sofia or Romy

Our baby girl is finally here and we still can’t decide on a name. Her big sisters are Ivy and Amelie. We think we’ve narrowed it down to Sofia or Romy. Thoughts?

Sofia personally. Romy is ok but you'd then have 3 with the same sounding ending, which isn't a huge deal but is something to consider. I suppose there are fewer Romys around, if that matters.
Anyway, congratulations!

Sofia fits better stylistically, but Romy fits the theme. I personally would suggest Sophie.

Drummend01 · 05/06/2025 12:51

I like both names, I would choose Sofia but it's quite popular so if you prefer something less popular then Romy is a lovely choice too

Sofia.
Romy always sounds more like a boys name, isn't one of bojo kids called Romy?

JessyCarr · 05/06/2025 13:12

Definitely Sofia for me. Timeless, international and beautiful.

I have known a male Romy, and also a female one. BoJo’s Romy is a daughter. There was also an actress Romy Schneider (whose birth name was Rosemary) - a dated reference now, but it’s clear Romy has been in the female domain for a long time. Still doesn’t hold a candle to the lovely Sofia, though!

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 05/06/2025 13:19

Definitely Sofia for me too. Lovely, timeless name.

Balloonhearts · 05/06/2025 13:25

I like Romy. Possibly because I knew a Romy and she was lovely.

tedibear · 05/06/2025 13:26

Sofia by miles!

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/06/2025 14:35

Sofia by miles. Classic, timeless... not keen on Romy.

KayEmAy · 05/06/2025 15:39

Sofia is perfect with Ivy and Amelie

Cocktailsandcheese · 05/06/2025 16:02

What beautiful names your girls have! Sofia is perfect.

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/06/2025 19:52

Sofia is perfect. I like Romy but don’t feel it goes as well with Ivy and Amelie.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 08/06/2025 00:00

Sofia for sure

Romy never sounds like w name to me, also Boris Johnson used it, which is a good reason not to

Santasbigredbobblehat · 08/06/2025 00:04

I’d never heard the name Romy until recently and now it’s everywhere. Much prefer Sofia.

polarsystem · 08/06/2025 00:09

Romy definitely. Such an underused and great name. There are so many Sofia/Sophias around.

Bellaire85 · 08/06/2025 04:36

I think Sofia fits better with your other daughter’s names, but for what it’s worth, I love the name Romy too. Beautiful names all around😊

Bellaire85 · 08/06/2025 04:37

I’ve already changed my mind - go Romy! It’s more rare. I think you’d regret it long term, when you meet lots of other Sofias

cariadlet · 08/06/2025 06:42

If Sofia is the usual spelling in your country/heritage then I would go for Sofia.

If you are British and you don't have other nationalities in your background, I'd go for Sophia or Sophie because I prefer traditional spellings.

Sofia!

JillyGiraffe · 08/06/2025 09:21

I’m not sure if Romy is pronounced Rommy or ‘Rome’y..?

AndImBrit · 08/06/2025 09:22

Definitely Romy!

TheBigFactHunt · 08/06/2025 09:24

Romy. I once had a dog so named.
Full name was Romola.
