Emily Rose? Is it too common?

I love Emily but because it’s such a common name I felt like I should choose a slightly more unique middle name but I can’t help but love Emily Rose, even though I know it’s a popular pairing it’s so pretty.

Thoughts?

In 2007 we were going to call dd Emily Rose. Until they brought out the film The Exorcism of Emily rose.
We went off it.
I still love the name but I would always think of the horror film.

dontcomeatme · 17/05/2025 19:35

I love Emily, I was either going to have Emily Elizabeth, I'm not normally one to like alliteration but I love that. Or Emily Jean. I think Rose is a filler name, but it is beautiful, and if you like it, go for it x

ZenNudist · 17/05/2025 19:36

Beautiful classic names go well together

clocktick · 17/05/2025 19:37

I think Emily is beautiful and timeless. Emily Rose is a lovely name but I have to admit I didn’t know there was a horror movie with that name!

Lisbeth50 · 17/05/2025 19:38

I like Emily Rose but it is very popular & I've met quite a few.

What about Emily Rosa or Emily Rosanne/Rosanna or another similar name? Or Emily Rose with a 3rd middle name?

SunshineAndFizz · 17/05/2025 19:40

Horror movie.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/05/2025 19:42

Emily Rosamund?

Calliopespa · 17/05/2025 19:44

I think it’s really classic and pretty.

There’s no need for names to be “different”; I don’t know a single Emily Rose even though I know both names well.

The horror movie isn’t ideal but in all honesty you could call a child anything and at some point there might be a movie, a serial killer, an obnoxious politician etc etc who comes along with the same name. I might be influenced by the fact I don’t watch horror so it’s not really in my radar I guess.

Emily Kate is also quite sweet if you really go off Rose?

JMSA · 17/05/2025 19:45

My first thought was ‘horror movie’. Sorry!

Temporaryname158 · 17/05/2025 19:49

personally I find Emily a boring name, the kind chosen when people have run out of ideas. But that’s my opinion and you may not like names I do. It’s personal taste and if you like it you should choose it. It’s your child you are naming and you have to write it, think it and say it daily

It's a beautiful name :) Go for it, doesn't matter if it's common

Snorlaxo · 17/05/2025 19:53

Would you consider a name between Emily and Rose? Emily Rose sounds like one of those combinations like Lily Mae (and the various spelling variations ) and highly popular. Is your surname at least unusual ? The major pro is that she will be relatively anonymous online because there will be other women called Emily Rose.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/05/2025 19:55

I know an Emily Rose, and she is a lovely young woman. If you like the name, go for it, @hcarter8!

WtafIsThat · 17/05/2025 20:20

Yes, Rose is the ultimate filler middle name. every Emily will be Emily Rose/Grace or May. It’s so bloody boring.

But some of us don’t see it as boring. We see it as classic for a reason.

I really don’t like out there names.
Rose is a popular filler because it does the job well.

You can always slip another name in between op .

MissPearlPratt · 17/05/2025 20:31

Both beautiful, timeless names.

Didn't know about the film, but if that's a concern what about Emilia Rose?

WtafIsThat · 17/05/2025 20:32

What makes it a classic? It’s the same as everyone having Louise or Marie in the 80s. Or Jane. It will date like they have.

I work with kids and they’re all Evie May, Lily Rose, Daisy May, Ella Rose, Olivia Rose, Amelia Grace. It’s dull.

You can literally tell when people are born because of their middle names.

GroovyChick87 · 17/05/2025 20:32

It's perfectly nice and acceptable but in my personal opinion I wouldn't call a kid that as it's a bit boring and too common.

Poppins2016 · 17/05/2025 20:43

Emily Rose is pretty and classic. The names are common/popular, but I don't think they're too common. It's better to have names you love than to go for something different/"younique" for the sake of it.

My children all have classic/popular(ish) names. I have no regrets.

But names like Louise and Jane are still not cringe. I actually think Jane is due a comeback; it’s has the same credentials as Rose as a middle name.

That’s really the point with classics. They may come and go but they are never wtf??!

BalloonSlayer · 17/05/2025 20:50

Middle names really don't matter at all.

How often does anyone ask you what your middle name is?

The first name is what is important. So you could call her Emily Rose or Emily Ermintrude but no one, after the Christening/Naming ceremony will be able to remember what her full name is.

My DD has an incredibly common name/middle name combination - generally- but not so much for her generation ( think: Sally Anne) - and it has never worried her at all actually she loved finding other people with the same name. People don't always want to be unique.

Firsttimebabymummy · 17/05/2025 20:52

I don't know the horror film mentioned.

Emily Rose is a gorgeous name and you should go for it if you love it!

Blackbookofsmiles1 · 17/05/2025 20:57

Emily Rose. Classic, Beautiful. I think it’s a great name.

EmeraldRoulette · 17/05/2025 20:59

Is this really a common name?

I immediately think of the film.

WtafIsThat · 17/05/2025 21:01

It doesn’t have to be one or the other. Hmm
