Emily Rose? Is it too common?

I love Emily but because it’s such a common name I felt like I should choose a slightly more unique middle name but I can’t help but love Emily Rose, even though I know it’s a popular pairing it’s so pretty.

Thoughts?

It’s a horror film.

Moreteaandchocolate · 17/05/2025 21:12

I like Emily Rose. It is popular, but probably because it’s a very pretty combo. If you wanted something less commonly used, I like the suggestion of Emily Kate. Emily Claire, Emily Florence, Emily Maya, Emily Ava, Emily Clara are other nice options 😊

Redflamingos · 17/05/2025 21:19

Let’s hope your surname is really rare!!

Otherwise an Emily Rose will very likely be easily misidentified. That can have all sorts of consequences (mistaken identity)

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 17/05/2025 21:21

As an early 90s Emily Rose I am quite bias. Never met another so not sure why people are saying it is common unless they mean common as muck rather than tons of children being called it

YorkshireIndie · 17/05/2025 21:24

My sister is Emily Rose and I love the name Emily and wish I could have used it on my child!
Emily is such a lovely name

wafflesmgee · 17/05/2025 21:25

Rose is a common middle name but Emily isn’t common, I teach in primary schools and have never taught an Emily in ten years.
Emilia/amelia/amelie are incredibly common though.
i like Emily rose.
Emily sarah
emily Kirsten also spring to mind

Bowling4soup · 17/05/2025 21:25

It’s very beautiful. I did immediately think the exorcism of… but it would be a passing thought the first time hearing her name and never again

thebiggestmugoftea · 17/05/2025 21:26

Gorgeous name. Effortlessly classy and timeless.

I picture a well brought up, polite girl

christologymum · 17/05/2025 21:27

I have an Emilie Rose and she’s 14 now and I still love it

Parker231 · 17/05/2025 21:27

Both lovely classic names- perfect combination

No I don’t know one either. And there’s no way it’s “ common as muck” common.

OneOliveZebra · 17/05/2025 21:30

Ive never met an ugly Emily

Ive never met an ugly Emily

Well … I have, but … it’s not like she could help it.

PurpleChrayn · 17/05/2025 22:24

Emily is a gorgeous name. Rose is such a cliché as a middle name.

I have… but not sure why that’s relevant

Unless you are going to be referring to her as “Emily Rose” rather than just Emily, then the horror film really doesn’t matter imo —because nobody apart from the individual or their family cares much about middle names (most won’t even know what your DD’s is).

Having said that, while I adore classic names, so I like both Emily and Rose (and am especially fond of Rose in the first name spot) - I do think Emily Rose could potentially cause issues if you have a very commonplace surname too (as there are likely to be hundreds of Emily Rose Smith’s for example in the country and it could cause issues at school or work etc if someone had the exact same name).

If that is the case, then I’d consider reversing it to Rose Emily or considering Emily Rosa/Rosanna - something just a little less popular. But if your surname isn’t one you encounter everywhere, then crack on with your fave- there are so many benefits to a classic name like Emily and it’s hardly the end of the world that Rose is this generations go-to middle name.

ILOVECHAMBERS · 18/05/2025 01:32

Yes Emily-Rose is to common like Lily-May like I got…depends wether ya think it suits her, I changed my lily-may to Pepa-may 🤣🤣🤣 peppa pig came out 🫣

mathanxiety · 18/05/2025 01:43

If you like the name, then use it. It's pretty and timeless, very feminine.

Alternatives might be Emily Rosina or Emily Rowena.

CurlewKate · 18/05/2025 03:25

It honestly doesn’t matter whether it’s popular or not. It’s a lovely name and you love it. Go for it!

In 2007 we were going to call dd Emily Rose. Until they brought out the film The Exorcism of Emily rose.
We went off it.
I still love the name but I would always think of the horror film.

Yes, me too.

Rose is a lovely name but stuck as a crappy boring middle name.

Me too, but I'm a horror film buff.

What makes it a classic? It’s the same as everyone having Louise or Marie in the 80s. Or Jane. It will date like they have.

I work with kids and they’re all Evie May, Lily Rose, Daisy May, Ella Rose, Olivia Rose, Amelia Grace. It’s dull.

You can literally tell when people are born because of their middle names.

In what way does it matter?

I’ve got 2 very popular, of their time first and middle names and have spent precisely 0% of my life wishing my parents had chosen a more unique name.

OP - it’s a lovely name. If you like it, go for it.

Happyinarcon · 18/05/2025 06:37

If it helps, it was a really good horror film, not a low budget teen slasher one

Changeissmall · 18/05/2025 06:52

I knew my best friend for 20 years before finding out her middle name. They’re completely irrelevant except as a way to honour some part of a child’s heritage.
Why not have NO middle name? I don’t have one. Makes filling out forms slightly quicker.
