Sorry for all the posts from me in the last few weeks, I’m just seeing what people think.

We really like Iris, but also Sophia - Sophia Iris is a potential, but my DH would love Iris as a first name.

I love both Iris and Sophia.

Letshavetea1 · 08/05/2025 19:12

I think it’s absolutely beautiful and I’d have it as a first name! Go for it. Iris Sophia sounds great too. I’m

NewBinBag · 08/05/2025 19:14

Love Iris.

makes me think of the song by the goo goo dolls which is also beautiful.

VeryQuaintIrene · 08/05/2025 19:14

Iris is great but I don't think it goes in either direction with Sophia - either too many vowels or too many Ss next to each other.

ReaganLockWood · 08/05/2025 19:19

Middle name suggestions would be appreciated

Iris is beautiful, very sophisticated. It's one of my favourite names. Sophia is ok, but not a patch on Iris.

hupsie · 08/05/2025 19:22

It’s one of my favourite names, but DH wasn’t keen. Otherwise it would have been a contender for DD. I think Iris Sophia sounds nice

Iris Olivia
Iris Alicia
Iris Emily

Emanwenym · 08/05/2025 19:22

Iris is elegant and not as overused as Sophia and Sofia.

Firsttimebabymummy · 08/05/2025 19:22

Really like it. Also like Sophia, but prefer Iris.

Any family names you want to use?
Iris Jade
Iris Maeve
Iris Elizabeth
Iris Alexandra

Love it

Goandygo · 08/05/2025 20:00

I prefer Sophie to Sophia.
Love Iris.
Iris Elizabeth
Iris Catherine

Do you have anyone in your families you could honour ?

user2848502016 · 08/05/2025 20:01

I like both but prefer Iris, I think it’s prettier and more unusual

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/05/2025 10:16

I love Iris and would pick it over Sophia, as Sophia has been overdone for many years.

Both gorgeous names but, if popularity bothers you, I agree with this PP. I wasn’t going to click on this thread as I thought I read it the other day but it was a different Iris thread so I also imagine it’ll creep up the name charts over the coming years. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t actually.

It doesn’t bother everyone though! Our one DD has a fairly popular name but it didn’t put us off - names are popular for a reason.

Emanwenym · 09/05/2025 12:40

names are popular for a reason - fashion.

I remember hearing of a baby Sophia 30+ years ago, and I wasn't keen on it (too fancy).
Since then, I know lots of little Sophias/Sofias. The name seems less unusual and fancy.

When picking a name for their baby, many new parents will pick from a set of names that are currently being given to babies.

BeReet · 09/05/2025 12:53

I have an Iris, she's 15 now, and it does seem to be getting more popular. Her middle name starts with a V and she's hated it for years but she's slowly starting to appreciate it more

Snugglemonkey · 09/05/2025 13:08

I love Iris. There are too many Sophie, Sophia, Sofia.

Scorpion84 · 09/05/2025 14:25

Love Iris , my daughters middle name.

I was thinking more along the lines that certain names are popular because they’re nice or solid names. I think our DD2’s name is beautiful and classic which is probably why it’s commonly used as a middle name.

AlphabettiTouretti · 09/05/2025 15:49

Both are lovely. Iris is more unusual and striking.

Emanwenym · 09/05/2025 16:15

@Gia906 , it may well be. Historically, there have been names that were very popular that seem awful now.

But Baby Barry could work in 2025… 😁

Emanwenym · 09/05/2025 18:16

I was thinking of Doreen, Beryl and Brenda. I know a few Beryls and Brendas, and the names were popular once.

My cat is called Barry. He is hairy, has big teeth and sings.

'Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's cat, no time to talk'
Music loud and women warm
I've been pandered to since I was born'
