Mabel or Imogen?

Our baby girl is due at the end of the month and we are still undecided! Our daughter is Phoebe Elizabeth.
We are thinking Imogen Charlotte or Mabel Alice. What do you think? Or offer any other suggestions!

Both are lovely and go well with Phoebe! You might find that when you wait until she's here, you know which suits her by looking at her x

AllPlayedOut · 07/05/2025 13:26

Imogen is much nicer than Mabel.

Nannyfannybanny · 07/05/2025 13:27

I love Alice, and Imogen,as long as it's not shortened to immi, hate Mabel serious old lady vibes.

AdaColeman · 07/05/2025 13:27

Imogen is a glorious name!

preggo39 · 07/05/2025 13:28

Mabel! That was our fave for a girl. I think it has good nickname options too - May and Bel. I don’t like Immy.

Em1151 · 07/05/2025 13:28

Imogen and Alice are so beautiful!

motherboredd · 07/05/2025 13:29

I like Imogen a lot.

Viviennemary · 07/05/2025 13:30

Don't like either. But Charlotte and Alice are both nice.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 07/05/2025 13:31

I have an Imogen and is called Immy and it’s a great name cute but classical

Phoebe and Imogen

or

Phoebe and Alice

Not Mabel it’s jumped the shark to old lady territory

Scratchingaroundinthesameoldhole · 07/05/2025 13:32

Mabel is great

Octocat · 07/05/2025 13:33

I don't think Alice follows Mabel very well, so I'd stick with Charlotte as the middle name for both.

I prefer Imogen as the first name, but the gorgeous Selena Gomez has given me good associations for Mabel.

PeachPumpkin · 07/05/2025 13:45

Imogen Charlotte. Gorgeous name.

dnadiscoveryquery · 07/05/2025 13:48

I love Imogen, and differently to a couple here think the nn Immi is lovely .

Pemba · 07/05/2025 13:52

I loved my grandma who was a Mabel (and she would be well over a hundred if she was still here) but because of her I can't get away from the old lady vibes.

It's not a bad name though I suppose (and better than her sister's, who was a Gladys). I see some people have named their daughters Mabel in recent years. And there's the singer and Selena Gomez's character in Only Murders in the Building.

But Imogen is gorgeous and I think it fits better with Phoebe. Imogen Charlotte - beautiful.

SilverButton · 07/05/2025 13:53

Imogen

stopringingme · 07/05/2025 14:08

Mabel Charlotte would be my choice.

But I don't mind Imogen Charlotte either.

WillTheSHTFsoon · 07/05/2025 14:10

Imogen is top of my list if I have another Daughter. It's a beautiful name

11plusinLondon · 07/05/2025 14:12

I have a Mabel in my extended family and think it’s a lovely name.

Imogen is very common in the area I live in (South London). There’s three in DD’s class of 20 children.

Both Charlotte & Alice are gorgeous, classic names.

HundredPercentUnsure · 07/05/2025 14:13

Imogen 🫶

GrumpyDullard · 07/05/2025 14:15

Great taste! Those were my top two names but DP vetoed both so our DD is Alexandra.

2024BabyNameIndecision · 07/05/2025 14:20

Well I have an Imogen (and I live in South London as per a pp as well 😅) so my vote is definitely for Imogen. But even without that, I think it fits better with Phoebe than Mabel.

Congrats on a second daughter - watching our two develop their sisterly relationship over the past year has been absolutely joyous.

ToadRage · 07/05/2025 14:21

I don't like ether personally but its not my child. Mabel sounds really old fashioned for me and Imogen is entirely to common, I have a friend who just named their child Imogen Blaire. I like Charlotte but again its a v. popular name, Alice is sweet, it's my cousins middle name, first name Elisabeth.

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/05/2025 14:22

I love both! I’m really torn! Which goes best with your surname? Do you like Immy or May / Bel best as nn options?

I think I’d go for Mabel as I love a name that doesn’t tend to be shortened day to day :)

GuineapigOlympics · 07/05/2025 14:39

I don't really understand how people are still thinking Mabel is an old lady name - there's a Mabel in my son's year and he's 17. There's Mabel on Only Murders In the Building played by Selena Gomez. Yes, our great aunts were called Mabel (or Vera or Elsie or Ivy or Edie or Ada) but to this generation its just a name and quite a cool one.

NerdyNancy · 07/05/2025 14:43

I love them both. We have Mabel Jean in our family (she's 3). It is old lady vibes as someone said up above, but it's cool old lady I think.

@GuineapigOlympics My friend has Ada 3 and a half, my cousin's little girl is Mabel, another friend has 10 year old Elsie (admittedly named after the mum's grandma), and a woman at the book club has 6 year old Edith nicknamed Edie. I draw the line at Vera though!
