A sister for Eliza?

SongPenguin · 05/05/2025 08:16

Thoughts on this list of names please? DH and I like quite traditional names and have narrowed it down to this list.
Older sister is Eliza and middle name will probably be in honour of a family member so some variation of Eleanor/Nora/Leonora.

Baby girl is due in a month and I worry she may not have a name by then!

Anna (nn Nancy)
Alice
Astrid
Chloe
Constance (nn Connie)
Emily
Helena
Iris
Louisa
Lydia
Nina
Penelope
Phoebe
Rachel
Rose (or longer version Rosemary/Rosaline)
Sophie

Hazel, both names would have 5 letters with a Z in them.
Hazel Leonora sounds nice.

Iris is a gorgeous name!

If you have Instagram, look up “growlittlewildflower”, she has some lovely name suggestions of every theme/type you could think of x

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/05/2025 08:22

I really like Nancy but would use that as a full name on BC.

Otherwise i do like most on your list which is no help!

Havetoagree · 05/05/2025 08:24

I love all these names. What about Lucy? On the list I like Sophie, Alice, Emily, Chloe

I love the name Eliza it’s classic but with a modern feel.

I love Alice, Iris, Penelope, Phoebe, Anna (Nancy), Nina, Lydia, Chloe and Rose - they have a similar feel to Eliza.

Helena is lovely too and she could be Nell / Nellie day to day to avoid the pronunciation variations.

Emily and Sophie are quite bland in comparison to Eliza.

Louisa and Eliza sound a bit matchy maybe?

Rachel is lovely but more dated than modern sounding to me.

Constance is a bit stuffy sounding (to me) and I like Connie for a child but less for an adult.

Astrid I wouldn’t use as she might become Ass in secondary school.

GooseAttack · 05/05/2025 08:47

Polly
Penelope (Penny or Nell/Nelly)

Eliza’s sisters though of course are Jane, Mary and Kitty!

CreationNat1on · 05/05/2025 08:50

Lydia, beautiful.

CreationNat1on · 05/05/2025 08:52

Olivia, would match Eliza. Libby for short.

Abbigail or abbey is also pretty.

pilates · 05/05/2025 08:54

Constance or Lydia

WorthyOtter · 05/05/2025 08:59

Emily, I think would go well with eliza

Beautifulsunflowers · 05/05/2025 08:59

My first thought was Harriet.
but from your list I really like Helena or actually Rachel - you don’t hear it very often and it’s a great name!
Agree with pp that Louisa sounds too similar to Eliza.

user2848502016 · 05/05/2025 09:13

Astrid, Iris or Lydia from your list. All go beautifully with Eleanor as a middle name

Or Nancy Eleanor - Nancy as her actual name rather than nn for Anna

SongPenguin · 05/05/2025 09:47

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

I agree some of DH’s picks are a bit dated/90s.

Good points too that Louisa is a bit too close in sound to Eliza and Helena doesn’t sound as good with the middle name options.

I really liked Harriet and Olivia too but DH vetoed them unfortunately.

I love Nancy Eleanor! Also leaning towards Lydia and Iris I think.

They all go fine, I like Nina, Penelope, Alice, Nancy, Iris

Hamiltonfan · 05/05/2025 12:07

Are you a Hamilton fan? If so it has to be Angelica or Peggy!

Love this!!

Anna (nn Nancy) - both nice but Anna doesn't need a nn
Alice - like
Astrid - like but doesn't go with Eliza
Chloe - overused in the 2000s
Constance (nn Connie) - yes
Emily - no, because of matching initial
Helena - no
Iris - no
Louisa - too similar in pattern to Eliza
Lydia - like
Nina - like but doesn't go with Eliza
Penelope - ok
Phoebe - ok
Rachel - ok but I know a lot of adult Rachels
Rose (or longer version Rosemary/Rosaline) - no
Sophie - like but doesn't go with Eliza

Nancy Eleanor is fab.

StScholastica · 05/05/2025 17:07

Nancy, Penny or Rose.
How about Felicity?

Yerto · 05/05/2025 17:48

I really like Iris and Phoebe.

lurkerchan · 06/05/2025 20:09

They're all fine except Alice, Astrid, Constance and Nina that don't go well. Emily and Helena also don't go with your middle name(s). Chloe Eleanor/Iris Eleanor are lovely.

Snugglemonkey · 06/05/2025 21:26

Lydia. Or Nancy.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 06/05/2025 22:01

Anna (nn Nancy) - I love it, I’d go for this.

Alice - it’s ok, but overdone and a bit wet
Astrid - I really like it
Chloe - ok.
Constance (nn Connie) - I like it
Emily - fine but way overdone
Helena - nice. Nell is a nice short form
Iris - lovely but way overdone
Louisa - ok
Lydia - nice
Nina - I find this quite nothingy. It was traditionally a pet form of Anna, so I’d use that on the birth cert, or a name like Christina, for options
Penelope - nice but I really don’t like Penny as a shortform, Nell is nice
Phoebe - ok
Rachel - nice, solid, underused.
Rose (or longer version Rosemary/Rosaline) - way too many Rose names about, lovely though it is - though you could go for Rosanna nn Nancy
Sophie - pretty but as Sophia was so overdone it’s v tired

Maybe Lois?

I’d go for your first choice though honestly

MiddleAgedDread · 06/05/2025 22:09

Alice and Nina were my first thoughts before I read your list!
