Bethany

Was at church on Good Friday and the vicar mentioned the nane Bethany, as in the place. It made me think of Bethany if a different light, I've always liked Bethan but seen Bethany as a little dated and ditsy.

I think it is a lovely, rather underused name.

TenThousandSpoons · 20/04/2025 20:48

Love it

PeppermintPatty10 · 20/04/2025 20:49

I love both - Bethan and Bethany, and agree that they are underused! Beth is a lovely nickname too.

BatchCookBabe · 20/04/2025 20:49

Yeah it's cute.

DanDin · 20/04/2025 20:50

Bethan is dated, as are Bethany and Beth.

Lou670 · 20/04/2025 20:51

It's my daughters middle name and was almost her first name. She is mid twenties and I still like the name.

Mehmeh22 · 20/04/2025 20:51

My daughter is called Bethany and I love it. She's a little minx but suits her and it's nice knowing half the school is not called it either!

DorothyStorm · 20/04/2025 20:51

It was a poor part of Jerusalem. Where Jesus and the disciples were staying in Holy Week.

SkaneTos · 20/04/2025 21:12

I think Bethany is a beautiful name.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 20/04/2025 21:40

Bethany was popular in the 1990's, but quite unusual in schools these days. Bethan seems to be more of a timeless name (at least in Wales). Beth itself could be short for a number of names, from Bethan and Bethany to Elizabeth.

purpleme12 · 20/04/2025 21:41

I love Bethan and Bethany

StarDolphins · 20/04/2025 21:42

My name is Bethany! I’m really old though so I think I must’ve been the first person to be called it🤣 I like it though!

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 20/04/2025 21:45

I find it a bit pudding-y, but the one I knew pronounced it Beffuny, and was a bit lumpen

Cherrypinc · 20/04/2025 21:46

I know a Bethany, a Bethan and a couple of Beth’s. I prefer Beth.

fudgesmummy · 20/04/2025 21:50

My now 38 year old DS would have been Bethany if he was a girl

PurpleChrayn · 20/04/2025 21:54

It’s a bit breathy and insipid, like a blocked nose.

123feraverto · 20/04/2025 21:58

It is my name , no one ever calls me that , always Beth

Viviennemary · 20/04/2025 22:00

Its a very nice name but a bit dated.

sunshineandshowers40 · 20/04/2025 22:01

I like the name Bethany- know 2 both in their 30's who go by Beth.

😂 what on earth

GreenTurtles3 · 20/04/2025 22:04

My daughter is Bethany and the only one in her primary school. She knows about the biblical link and loves her name.
I think it makes a change from all the Ava, Eva, Isla, Mia names.

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/04/2025 22:26

Lovely! I do prefer Bethan though 😊

RuthW · 20/04/2025 22:29

It's dated now.

motherhen27 · 20/04/2025 22:30

I like Beth but not Bethany. Sounds a bit wet and frilly to me.
