Hey Jude. I love the name, male or female.

Catsonskis · 13/04/2025 20:27

I love Jude. Who cares if it’s popular. Olivia has been top girls name for like 10 years and I’ve only come across one!

Differentstarts · 13/04/2025 20:28

I like Jude for a boy. I really like Oakley at the minute and want if for next baby if it's a boy

toastofthetown · 13/04/2025 20:33

Too popular is really subjective. Personally I’d be a bit put off, but I ended up naming my baby a name which was more popular than I thought I would because we loved the name and it really suited him. Personally I prefer Jude to Chester.

FeelingLessTired · 13/04/2025 20:35

My Dcs are 14 and 12 and they each have a Jude in their class. But only one. It's a nice name IMO.

Thinking of vaguely similar names;

Jonah
Jonty (One of my favourite names)
Judah
Silas (I only know of one- 14)
Ezra
Ezekiel (my all time favourite)

Emanwenym · 13/04/2025 20:37

What @toastofthetown said. You love the name so use it.

AshesofTime · 13/04/2025 20:38

It’s silly not to use the one name you love because it might be popular.

Upwiththisiwillnotput · 13/04/2025 20:40

I love it, one of the loveliest people I ever met was a Jude, sadly she is no longer with us x

My little 3 month old baby boy is Jude, I don't know any others (besides the famous ones obviously).

Mrscharlieeeee · 13/04/2025 20:43

I have a Jude, he’s about to turn 11. It was something like 75th on the ONS list when I was pregnant but it had been my boy name since childhood so I was using it regardless. I know probably 3 Jude’s now, all younger, so it’s definitely getting more popular. I would still use it if you like it. Our 2nd DS has a far less common name, not met another yet although someone I went to school with has used it since but we’re only Facebook friends these days.

beasmithwentworth · 13/04/2025 20:49

Op it was the only boys name I liked when I had a boy. I really looked far and wide as I really didn’t like Jude Law at the time ( I think he had just been caught shagging the nanny 😂) but I went with it and I still love it just as much as I did then 15 years ago. I can’t speak for how many younger Judes there are but I do still love the name!

CurlewKate · 13/04/2025 20:56

It doesn’t matter how popular it is. If you like it, go for it!

Its a Hebrew name that means “praised”. It was a derogatory German word for jew but isn’t its true meaning

Chick981 · 13/04/2025 21:10

I’ve known three Judes born in the last 18 months or so so it would put me off, but that’s because I know them so wouldn’t want to call my baby the same name as a friends. If you love it and don’t like any others then go for it

PreggersWithBaby2 · 13/04/2025 21:13

Jude is far far far far far nicer than Chester.

I know a handful of Judes, and only 2 babies called Jude. The thing with popular names you could name something outside the top 100 or top 150 and still end up with another in his class so just go with the name you love!

I LOVE Jude, one of my favourite names. I’m in the South East and work with children and have two DC of my own and I have to say it is very popular but popularity always depends on the area you’re in! Some people don’t like popular names and others do so don’t let it put you off!

Some other suggestions for you:
Jesse
Tate
Blake
Albie
Beau
Austin
Tristan
Otto
Dexter
Brooks
Hector
Wilfred
Kai
Ralph
Monty
Bodhi
Finn
Huxley
Atticus

But julian and jude are miles apart. I’d sooner look for another 1 syllable name that I liked as much than go for a name that just started with the same letter.
i considered so many other names but just couldn’t find another one I liked nearly as much. It’s a very personal thing with names isn’t it? I’m sure everyone feels the similar about the names they went with too.

it being the German name for jude didn’t bother me in the slightest btw op.

margegunderson · 13/04/2025 21:33

Fgs it doesn’t matter if it’s popular. He’ll be unique because of who he is not his name.

Wrong

Mumofgirls2017 · 13/04/2025 21:57

I don’t think it’s overly popular? Top 100 but maybe not top 50?

I don’t know any boys called Jude (only women who are Jude short for Judith), so it’s not popular round here.

Jude IS the German word for Jew

BoleynMemories13 · 13/04/2025 23:09

Only you can decide if it is 'too popular' as it's such a subjective term. Many on here will say yes, anything in the top 100 is 'too popular' but who cares? If much rather go for a name I love.

Jude is so much nicer than Chester!

One of my daughters has a name which was top 5 nationally for years. Ten years on, she's still the only one in her school and I'm still yet to teach one at mine. Yet if I listened to people online I would have avoided it like the plague because people would have said she was 'guaranteed' to be one of many in her class. Well, she's not.

If you love Jude, pick Jude.
