Hi, I’m due early May and I still haven’t landed on a name.
These two are my current girl shortlist.

Alba

Maisie is a name for a pet.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 03/04/2025 17:49

I like both but Alba is my preference

Rockmehardplace · 03/04/2025 19:39

Alba by a country mile. Beautiful name which will grow with her, whereas Maisie is childish.

TennesseeStella · 03/04/2025 19:43

Maisie for sure. I am Scottish and I think Alba is a terrible name to saddle a kid with!

DuskyPink1984 · 03/04/2025 19:44

Maisie

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 03/04/2025 20:02

Of the two, definitely Maisie.

RaraRachael · 03/04/2025 20:03

Sorry I can't stand Alba as it reminds me of the Scottish political party.

Maisie is nice though

Beautifulweeds · 03/04/2025 20:32

Love Maisie, Alba is a logo for technology so wouldn't be my choice personally. Xxx

DoYouReally · 03/04/2025 20:41

I like Alba, but prefer Alva.

Massie sounds great anyone under 10 or over 70. I think it has cute little girl or happy Grandma vibes.

yes, because we'll have doctors, vets, solicitors, businesspeople, schoolteachers, engineers, politicians etc with names like Archie, Teddy, Evie,Ellie etc

Dr Teddy 😂surely he’ll revert to his full name Edward to be taken seriously.

Chunkilumptious · 03/04/2025 20:53

Sorry but I don't love either. Alba is a well known brand or a political party in the UK and Maisie is a bit twee. I wouldn't particularly want to be called Maisie. I'd prefer a more elegant name. Short for Margaret would be nice.

if you look at the stats, full names Teddy ranked 23rd in the UK top 100.

So yes, there will most definitely be dr Teddys.

@AmusedLemur , exactly. A friend has a Maisie. It's nice.

I don't like Alba. It sounds like Albert here and there are loads of Albies. The Scottish word is more like Al(uh)ba.

CrimsonVioletTeal · 03/04/2025 21:59

Maisie.

OopsieeDaisy · 03/04/2025 23:14

Definitely Maisie, lovely name!

Needspaceforlego · 03/04/2025 23:19

totk · 03/04/2025 15:48

Doesn't Alba mean Scotland? Bit like calling a kid Cymru?

Exactly, same as the political party, tv channel, various companies

I get it's a girls name in Spain and Italy but I don't think it works in Scotland.

Crisplet · 03/04/2025 23:21

I had a grey Alba “Walkman” growing up. The only association I have with that name, so it’s like calling your child Sony or Panasonic.

Maisie is nice.

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2025 23:22

Maisie is cutesy and twee and I think Alba has a really unappealing sound.

Of the two, Maisie.

margotsdevil · 03/04/2025 23:28

I'm not a Gaelic speaker but I think Alba is pronounced H-Alba - it's not as straightforward as it looks. Just worth considering.

1SillySossij · 04/04/2025 00:06

Alba is truly grim.
Maisie is not a name I would choose, I would put Mairead on the bc and nickname her maisie. Apart from the potential for being called "Crazy Maisie" I think it is pretty unobjectionable. I have never come across any other spellings IRL

loosestrife · 04/04/2025 02:00

I'm not a fan of names that are traditionally nicknames or short versions of other names. Maisie's traditionally a nickname for Margaret and variations. I'd choose either Alba or your favourite version of Margaret with Maisie for short.

lovinglaughingliving · 04/04/2025 02:04

Alba from Time Travellers wife 😍😍

wandawaves · 04/04/2025 02:14

Neither.
Alba doesn't have a nice sound to it at all, and Maisie is a bit cutesy. If I had to choose, I'd pick Maisie.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 04/04/2025 02:22

I don't like Alba. Maisie. We had a cat called Maisie many years ago. She was actually a boy!!

Mairead is not a nice name, and is very dated.
