Eleanor, Eloise or Rosalie?

Hello!

I was wondering which name gets the most ‘votes’ out of the three above?

Baby’s middle name(s) at present are likely to be Margot and/or Lily (names of beloved family members)

Rosalie

Don't like Rosalie. Love Eleanor and Eloise.

Pemba · 26/03/2025 23:47

I like them all but I would have to say :

  1. Eloise - absolutely gorgeous. I keep thinking of the song, especially the version by The Damned.
  2. Eleanor, elegant and classic. Has been a bit overused over the last 30 years or so though, maybe.
  1. Rosalie, my least favourite of the three, although I quite like it. It's a pretty name but somehow a bit 'frilly' maybe. I prefer Rosalind, Roisin, Rosanna or Rosa really, or Rosemary for a retro feel.
Pemba · 26/03/2025 23:47

Don't know what happened to the numbers!

SunshinePlease24 · 26/03/2025 23:47

Eleanor but Elinor instead.

Itsbrighttoday · 26/03/2025 23:50

Eleanor or Rosalie, would have to know the surname to choose between them.

Yep me too... No idea why, but Rosalie made me think of slime... Yuk

LilyJosephine · 27/03/2025 12:46

Eleanor. Very classic and fairly timeless sounding with some great historical namesakes. There’s also so many nn’s to choose from if for some reason she doesn’t like the full version (Elle/Ella/Ellie/Nell/Nelly/Leni/Nora). Imo it’s up there with Elizabeth in the “can’t go wrong” stakes in terms of names.

Rosalie and Elodie are nice enough (of the two I prefer Rosalie) but I definitely like the look and sound of Eleanor Margot Lily best -it also avoids the repeated “lee” or “ee” sounds in Rosalie, Elodie and Lily. I think Eleanor Margot Lily would serve both a child and an adult well.

Eleanor!

I've met little Eloises and Rosalies over the past few years and although I love the names, when I hear them said quickly, they just sound like Louise and Rosie. You really have to annunciate every syllable to make it clear to people so they don't mishear

Jessieshome · 27/03/2025 12:55

Eloise beautiful.

Eleanor is lovely too, but you night have to accept she'll become Ellie unless you both insist it is always Eleanor. I posted this somewhere else recently but I knew an Eleanor who pronounced all the letters, sort of, so: Elly-an-nor, which I always thought was lovely.

Rosalie irritates me for some reason!

Embobs89 · 27/03/2025 13:09

All of the above!

just had my 4th baby and called her Eleanor Violet. My eldest DD’s middle name is Rosalie. Also have LOVED Eloise ever since Bridgerton S1.

PS we call baby Nell or Nelly for short

SwanOfThoseThings · 27/03/2025 13:10

In order:
Eloise
Eleanor
Rosalie

MistyF · 27/03/2025 13:37

My favorites are Rosalie and Eloise

Forgottenmyphone · 27/03/2025 14:07

Eleanor is timeless. Always has been, always will be.

DramaAlpaca · 27/03/2025 14:16

All gorgeous.

I think I'd pick Rosalie, as it's the most unusual.

It's a bit on the frilly side, but I like it with a middle name like Margot to give it more 'edge'. Lily doesn't work with Rosalie.

KayEmAy · 27/03/2025 15:06

Personal favorite is Rosalie

rainingsnoring · 27/03/2025 15:23

Eleanor or Elinor (not Ellie)- beautiful, timeless classic.
I prefer Rosalind, Rosamund, Rosa or just classic Rose to Rosalie but it is fine, as is Eloise.

They are all nice, but I would pick Eleanor, as there are several names she can use from this. Ellie, Elle, Nell, Nellie, Nori, Nora etc...

InMyMNEra · 27/03/2025 15:30

Eloise, Rosalie, Eleanor

I adore Eloise, like Rosalie, and just don’t get the Mumsnet love for Eleanor

Lulu1919 · 27/03/2025 15:35

Eloise
I know four in a year group,of 35
Pretty name
I prefer Eleanor...pronunciation El a nor

Sunpeace · 27/03/2025 15:41

Rosalie

JaninaDuszejko · 27/03/2025 15:48

Love Eleanor and love Margot
Eloise and Lily less to my taste but perfectly acceptable. The repeated Ls means Lily doesn't work as a middle name with your choices though
Don't like Rosalie, it's too fussy for my taste.
