its so not fair,

I would still call your dd Poppy! What does it matter what the ex's dog is called?

TheProvincialLady · 13/05/2008 15:37

That is a daft reason for not using a name. Use it if you like it, what does his ex or her dog have to do with it?

Twinkie1 · 13/05/2008 15:38

Shoot the damn dog and be done with it!

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 15:38

Oh I wasn't allowed Nell for the same reason

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 15:39

oh no sorry he had a dog called Nell
not his ex!

PuppyMonkey · 13/05/2008 15:41

Do you still see his ex? Would she know and think: "A-ha, they've named their daughter in honour of my dog." Or is it just that you'd always think of her and her dog when looking at your dd?

2point4kids · 13/05/2008 15:41

If its taken dp a week to remember the dogs name, then its likely that no one else will remember at all!
Call your baby Poppy if you love it.
I think its a lovely name!

DiscoDizzy · 13/05/2008 15:46

Wahey a name thread where I actually like the name. We were going to call DD1 Poppy but then I think Gail Porter and then someone else stole it. I can understand the OP's reservations TBH.

JudgeNutmeg · 13/05/2008 15:47

My boy children share names with my dh's last two girlfriends. Idiot.

Number 37 on the list of things you don't want to hear from yout MIL.

TheProvincialLady · 13/05/2008 15:48

Oh PM I love the idea of naming a dd after an ex's dog, in honour of said hound!

Nancy66 · 13/05/2008 15:50

Unless this woman and her dog are still in your life then i can't see that it matters. Poppy is a lovely name.

Yes, but this is a section dedicated to children's names - not third world disasters.

f1nut - this thread makes me smile - it's so trivial but I understand why you think it's not fair!

whinegums · 13/05/2008 16:38

f1nut, the name both me and DP like for our boy is also the name of a friend's dog! We won't decide finally until he's born anyway, but if I get any grief then it's goodbye to the dog (and the friend). [manic laugh smiley].

What's wrong with a bit of frivolity btw? Are the baby names threads all meant to be deadly serious??!!

PuppyMonkey · 13/05/2008 16:41

My dd is named the same as a friend's cat...

f1nut · 13/05/2008 17:03
