do you like this name? If not, why?

I was at school with a Spencer (in the 80s).
I personally don't think it's great as a first name.
(Apologies to the Spencer I knew - he was a nice lad 😁)

I’ve always liked but not enough to use myself!

It gets shortened to Spence, which is a cupboard.

I only know it as a surname and I would worry ending up with the nickname Mark at school.

The one I know is called Spenny.

I like it! Someone I know recently had a baby called Spencer and the name has grown on me.

Sounds like a dogs name and also makes me think about Spencer Pratt and Spencer Matthews who imo are both horrible men. Sorry!

I really dislike surnames used as forenames.

I don't like it as a first name. To me, it's a not particularly nice sounding surname.

You do realise very common first names are also surnames such as George, Alex, James, Ross, Arthur, Matthew, Michael, Edward, Dean, Craig, etc, right?

Most male names could be used as first names or surnames really. Spencer certainly seems to have made that cross over years ago. I also went to school with a couple Spencers in the 1980s.

Many of those aren't surnames.

My younger brother was Spencer, born in early 80s. I’ve always loved the name and it’s my eldest sons’s middle name.

I don’t live in Uk so don’t know who Spencer Matthews is so I don’t have any negative connotations!

I’m not keen. Too many red-trouser-wearing associations.

I knew someone with the surname Matthew and Arthur can be a surname - there was an actress called Bea Arthur.

They're not common surnames, no, but they are surnames some of the time.

Bea Arthur was her stage name.

Spencer makes me think of Frank Spencer, so I’m not a fan.

I love it but I wasn’t posh enough for DP to agree 😂
