Isobel April or Isla

Due a girl soon and we keep going round in circles.. we love all three of these but concerns are:

Isobel - we love this spelling as Scottish on both sides but we live in England, will it forever be spelt differently by people?

April - she is likely to be born this month.. does it matter?

Isla - there are a few around us and know it is probably the more common / popular of the three. Not necessarily a bad thing I guess.

What does everyone prefer? Any girl names along similar lines?

Do you say Isobel or isAbel

if you say with the o the spelling shouldn’t be too hard

all nice so you can’t lose

ShanghaiDiva · 15/03/2025 13:15

Isobel is my favourite.

TomatoSandwiches · 15/03/2025 13:17

Isobel is lovely as is.

CompactMirror · 15/03/2025 13:18

I think we would say IsObel.. good point!

I love April, and Isla but thats popular here so personally I'd avoid fir that reason!

I don't think it matters that she would be born that month either

Coffeeforayear · 15/03/2025 13:20

Isobel is a great name and the best spelling .

jackstini · 15/03/2025 13:22

Love Isobel

how about Iris as an alternative middle name? I think
it beautiful but strong and less common

Trallers · 15/03/2025 13:44

I like April, but it might get irritating for her when/if people find it amusing that she's born in the same month. It's not a guarantee but it would put it me off.

Love Isobel so that would be my pick.

Isla is nice enough, but I prefer your other names.

April is lovely and less common. I don't see a problem with her being born in that month. It would be odd to be called April and have a birthday in a different month tbh.

Moreteaandchocolate · 15/03/2025 13:51

Isla is my favourite - I just love the sound of it and the fact it doesn’t tend to get shortened.

Isobel - nice but lots of spelling variations and she will become another Issy (which I’m not massively keen on)

April - a pretty name, not overused and I don’t think it matters which month she is born. However, I think she might get asked “were you born in April” a lot - not a bad thing just it would make me think twice about using it personally

CompactMirror · 15/03/2025 14:04

It's more than likely she will be born towards the end of March - on the April thing I was thinking it might be quite nice as she's born and then we go straight into April (the month) but that could be hormones 🙈 in reality she will probably have to say "no I was born at the end of March 🙄) more than once but I don't think it's inconvenient enough to discount it...

April born in March is daft.

Isabelle is a nicer spelling

isla is the best of your list

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 15/03/2025 14:08

I like April and it’s both unusual and pretty. I’d definitely go with that.

Fontainebleau007 · 15/03/2025 14:38

Isla

SemperIdem · 15/03/2025 14:42

I have always liked the less fussy Isobel spelling.

Emanwenym · 15/03/2025 14:44

Isobel will be Izzy, and there are loads of Isabellas and Isabelles.
April is a bit too connected with the month and has mean girl vibes
Isla is pretty but has been overused, and Lila is very popular.

I'd be looking for a different name.

Bournetilly · 15/03/2025 14:45

Isobel is my favourite. April is ok. I hate the name Isla and it is so common.

Whoarethoseguys · 15/03/2025 14:46

My favourite is April especially if she is born in April. It's pretty and Isobel and Isla seems to be extending common.

Quercus3 · 16/03/2025 02:31

Isobel is lovely so long as you're ok with Izzy.

April is my favourite, gorgeous.

Isla is pretty but so over done here that I'd rule it out.

LauderSyme · 16/03/2025 02:36

Isobel was my favourite girls name for a very long time but I think I'm a popularity snob because I have slightly gone off it as it's become more common.

April is so pretty and I love it.

I am not a fan of Isla.

fatgirlswims · 16/03/2025 02:43

Isobel is the nicest imho

I like April and Isla but the the spring thing is confusing my thoughts and Isla is super popular.

Isobel could have cute nickname of Izzy or Bella and I like that flexibility in a name
But get some people don’t like nick names - not sure on your POV!

louisl8 · 16/03/2025 03:03

I have an Isobel Maeve and we love it Grin Dad has Scottish & Irish connections although Maeve is the anglicised version.

DramaAlpaca · 16/03/2025 03:27

I really don't like April as a name.

Isobel is lovely, as is Isla.

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 16/03/2025 03:36

Isobel for me still has an old lady vibe to it. I’m Scottish and most elderly Isobel’s are known as Isa.

April is nice, but not if born in March or May.
isla is lovely, if a bit popular atm
