Hello lovely people!

I am struggling to decide a name for my son who is due in a months time! My current top names are Jude and Sebastian. Both names go equally well with the surname. I would absolutely love to know your thoughts. Other name recommendations are welcomed too!

Sebastian is one of my favourites- and I love the nn Seb!

Jude I find a bit trendy and I also know a few female Judes (short for Judith) so it sounds a bit feminine to me.

Jude.

I know it's supposedly common but depends on area IMO. Not common where I live yet. Still would rather that name even if more popular.

keyboardtypo · 05/03/2025 15:27

Sebastian is one of my favourite names but Seb makes me 🤮 so I didn't choose it.

keyboardtypo · 05/03/2025 15:27

Jude is nice

Of the two, I'd choose Sebastian

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 05/03/2025 17:12

Definitely Jude. Sebastian and Seb/Sebby/Bas are horrible.

TabloidFootprints · 05/03/2025 17:14

I like Jude but I love Sebastian

Zeldasie · 05/03/2025 17:15

Unfortunately Seb Isn't nice. It sounds so soft and oily (sebaceous). Shame because the full name is ok.

Therefore I'd choose Jude

Comedycook · 05/03/2025 17:15

Sebastian for sure

Zeldasie · 05/03/2025 17:16

Basty is an even worse shortening than Seb, it's too close to Bastard

Whateverwhateverever · 05/03/2025 17:23

I like both . Am expecting a grandson fairly soon and hoping he might have one of those names.

NotCamping · 05/03/2025 17:24

Sebastian is 100x nicer.

JohnTheRevelator · 05/03/2025 17:25

Jude.

VeryQuaintIrene · 05/03/2025 17:27

Sebastian. I find Jude dreary.

tuesdayschildish · 06/03/2025 13:18

Love both but feel Sebastian is the more classic choice. I know so many little Judes - it’s very of the moment.

I don't much like either. And I know two female Judes, one in her 70s, so for me a boy Jude would be quite weird.

How about Jasper? which is sort of a mash up of the two.

Or Bacchus. Which I think it a wonderful man name (have not met one).

Cosmo, Cosimo

Basil

Ooh someone with my taste finally. Love both of these names, I think I'd go for Jude though. Sebastian, as much as I love it, has a risk of coming across a tad pretentious, or perhaps, a little harder to carry off without knowing their personality...?

LilyJosephine · 07/03/2025 00:04

Sebastian for me - although I wish it had a nicer typical shortening than Seb (I did hear a toddler Sebastian called Bash recently, which is pretty cute 🤣).

I’m really not keen on names which become trendy on the back of celebrities (Jude Law), plus I don’t think Jude has an especially pleasant sound personally. If you want a one syllable J name, James and Joel (or even just Joe) are nicer imo.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/03/2025 00:05

Sebastian is beautiful and timeless.

Firsttimebabymummy · 07/03/2025 06:39

Sebastian for sure

Zeldasie · 07/03/2025 07:07

Sebastian but only if it doesn't get shortened because none of the nicknames sound any good unfortunately

Jude is easy to say and can't get shortened

This!

Sebastian, Sebby, Seb 😍

bzarda · 07/03/2025 07:15

Sebastian to me will always be the crab from the little mermaid. Sebby as a nn I think is horrible so that would put me off.

Jude is lovely but it is becoming really popular if that bothers you. My little girl is almost 2 and we know lots of baby and toddler Judes.

Ferrazzuoli · 07/03/2025 07:16

I like Sebastian, Seb is a nice nickname too.
