Hello. I’m looking for a name that is timeless, handsome, striking and strong for a little boy / grown up man.

Which of these do you think has that vibe :

Hugo, Vaughn, Beau, Dominic, Nico, Jude, Raphael, Cassian, Viggo, Mateo, Vasco

Thanks!

Everyone will have different definitions of handsome and striking.

Viggo and Vasco are certainly 'striking', as so different, but I really don't like them.

For me, despite literally meaning handsome, the name Beau is far from it. It's really chavvy.

The rest of your list is ok, although Jude is the only one to my taste. As I said, everyone is different.

Marcipix · 03/03/2025 06:44

Hugo
Dominic
Mateo

Cassian is very wet. Viggo Mortensen is a beautiful man but I don’t actually like his name.

floralania · 03/03/2025 06:44

I would avoid anything ending in O because it's too fashionable. Fashionable names IMO don't equal strong and handsome. Same for Beau. Vaughn might fit the bill.

Marcipix · 03/03/2025 06:47

Sorry but Jude and Beau are anything but strong.

Agreed.

LostMyLanyard · 03/03/2025 07:33

None...they all sound a bit wet to me.

Sidebeforeself · 03/03/2025 07:41

They all sound straight from a Jilly Cooper novel . Why aren’t more traditional names handsome/striking?

I like Vaughn, Jude and Cassian

SwanOfThoseThings · 03/03/2025 07:45

I understand your wish for a 'handsome' and 'strong' name but I think you need to focus more on the 'timeless' bit. By the time your son is an adult, Viggo Mortenson will be known by your son's peers as an old man.

ladyinred36 · 03/03/2025 07:45

Julian

Stai · 03/03/2025 07:49

It’s the person that meets your list of criteria, not a name. I’d be wary of having all these expectation of a baby. Just go with a name you like and don’t be discouraged if your baby turns out to be a soft, effeminate, averagely attractive wonderful person.

Roseshavethorns · 03/03/2025 07:56

None of those names meet your criteria.
I do like Jude though.

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/03/2025 07:56

I like Hugo, Dominic and Vaughn best. Vaughn could be the winner - it does stand out and sound handsome and striking to me. Vasco could grow on me.

Nico and Jude are a bit trendy so might date but are quite handsome sounding. Mateo is perfect if you have related heritage but otherwise sounds a bit pretentious to me.

Cassian and Raphael sound a bit flowery to me rather than handsome.

Viggo is really not my taste.

Bbq1 · 03/03/2025 08:32

All okay excellent Viggio, Vasco, Beau and Jude. I think Jude is really common now. Vaughan is different but should be spelt Vaughan.

LastHeraldMage · 03/03/2025 08:34

Isn't Cassian from the soft porn books ACOTAR? (A court of thorns and roses - Sarah J maas)

CurlewKate · 03/03/2025 08:35

Hugo and Jude.

Bbq1 · 03/03/2025 09:00

Except not excellent

Uricon2 · 03/03/2025 09:14

Hugo good and I like Cassian. It was incredibly unusual until quite recently (although I know a middle aged one) but seems to be becoming much more popular, which you may or may not like.

How about Nicholas nn Nico?

AdaColeman · 03/03/2025 10:08

I'd say Hugo and Dominic are timeless, but all the other names on your list are of the moment.

Some of them are striking, Beau and Viggo for example, but I wouldn't say that any of them were strong names, especially not those ending with an "O".

Dominic is such wet nothing name

shoopshoopdedoo · 03/03/2025 10:17

Personally, I wouldn’t say any of them fit your criteria. For “handsome and timeless” I’d be thinking of James, Alexander…

From your list I think Dominic and Hugo are most fitting.

Jessieshome · 03/03/2025 10:46

Personally, and really sorry to say, but I'd say all these names are the opposite of what you want. They're al a bit wet and lack lustre.

I like the name Jude, but think don't think striking and handsome when I hear it, I think arty and musical and the Beatles song.

Vaughn probably comes the closest, and it's a nice name, but not sure I'd say timeless.

EcruCardigan · 03/03/2025 11:45

I don't think any of those as handsome, striking and strong

Hugo - currently popular, will date because of the -o ending
Vaughn - prefer the Vaughan spelling, and I think of it as a surname. I think it means small.
Beau - dreadful
Dominic - timeless but will be Dom
Nico - not timeless but OK. A bit unisex. Will date
Jude - currently popular on here (I don't like it, seems faddy)
Raphael - currently popular on here (I don't like it) . Will be Raf/Raphy.
Cassian - ok
Viggo - not timeless in the UK
Mateo - not timeless in the UK
Vasco - not timeless in the UK

Dominic is the one that best meets your brief, but the others seem faddy.
