French name we'd love as much as Inès?

Hi everyone

I'm due another girl early March and we don't have a single name we both love.

Our DD is Inès (French heritage). We'd like something French that would also work here and is ideally shortish like Inès. We'd like it to complement her name if that's possible. To me, Inès was pretty but not too flowery or twee, a bit modern (but not too much so) and a bit less common compared to more classic names like Sophie and Amelie for example, although these are both beautiful names.

Thank you in advance!

Vivienne

Think someone's said it already but my niece has a girl in her class called Ottilie which I love. Also like Elia and Coralie. Think I just like lots of vowels!

Thank you everyone. I've gone from being a little stressed we don't have a name - or even names - yet to feeling excited to go through these tonight with DH. I've skim read so far and there are so many would-be perfect suggestions already used by family and friends unfortunately!

Apologies @nfkl . In future, I shall preface any name threads I start with an etymological breakdown of my DD's name/a disclaimer about its language of origin and include a list of its variations across different languages. This was precisely why I added "French heritage" after the è as I imagined someone would be along to give me a lesson on my own child's name and acute/grave accents.

Not at one point did I say I need a French name to go with the French name Inès, btw, so a little comprehension wouldn't go amiss if you insist on being pedantic.

@Noname94 I like your vibe, op!

I think Céline is a perfect name, but then I'm biased as it's mine!

tivolidancer · 25/02/2025 19:41

Lucie
Clementine (not a short name but I really like it!)
Sylvie
Manon

Bernadinetta · 25/02/2025 19:42

Already mentioned by others by Seraphine or Sylvie

Don’t shoot the messenger, not my fault if OP
isn’t clear enough

Ines is a lovely name, it is used in France, Ines de la Fressange is the quintessential Parisian woman and all that (her mom was Spanish btw), so I understand the connection OP makes, but the name itself is not French (or it would be Agnes)

oh my god stop being such a pedantic knob.

Just make sure you explain correctly to your little Ines or she will be made to look ridiculous some day and that wouldn’t be fair on her

Agree, it's predominantly Portuguese so also found it odd to be looking for another "french name" like Ines.

It's not French at all.

Waterboatlass · 25/02/2025 20:14

I didn't know ines and Agnes were the same but said out loud (in French) yes they are!!

coronafiona · 25/02/2025 20:16

Eh?! They're pronounced differently.
Inès: "Inn - ess" (rhymes with finesse)
Agnès "An - yes"

ShannonBailey · 25/02/2025 20:37

@NameChange30 In-ess. An-yess. Too close in sound, and both are forms of Agnes.

Yes, they are both forms of Agnes. Yes, they sound similar. But they are not the same. That was the comment I was responding to. I wasn't in any way suggesting the OP call her second daughter Agnès, given that her first daughter is Inès Grin

ShannonBailey · 25/02/2025 21:40

@NameChange30 They are both nice and don't sound that similar, just too close for sisters. I wasn't criticising you in any way.
