French name we'd love as much as Inès?

Hi everyone

I'm due another girl early March and we don't have a single name we both love.

Our DD is Inès (French heritage). We'd like something French that would also work here and is ideally shortish like Inès. We'd like it to complement her name if that's possible. To me, Inès was pretty but not too flowery or twee, a bit modern (but not too much so) and a bit less common compared to more classic names like Sophie and Amelie for example, although these are both beautiful names.

Thank you in advance!

Ana

Manon, Anouk, Anais, Sylvie - all gorgeous without being overwhelmingly twee...

You might have to correct a few British people who try and call her A-neigh though...

<bitter experience>

Genevieve
Vivienne

Another Manon fan here.

I also like Solene, Marguerite, Vivienne, Audrey and Lea [with an accent]

I would not use Anais and would look for names with a completely different vowel sound. Why? The voice of experience - Because you'll spend your life calling them the wrong name especially when under pressure

Judellie · 25/02/2025 17:53

Sylvie or Louise?

ASuitableName · 25/02/2025 18:04

Linnea (apologies for lack of accent)
Mathilde
Noa
Zelie

I know 3 little Inés. All French. None confused about their heritage. All with sisters:
Vivienne
Daphne
Delphine
Maelys mother also considered Maeva
Celeste
Seraphine

Ines is not a French name, more Spanish/Portuguese

Inès is a popular and common girl's name in France.
And your post is very unhelpful, OP wasn't asking about the name Inès!

I love Regine and Alba
Although think Alba is Latin rather than French

NameChange30 · 25/02/2025 18:28

Inès is a beautiful name, I'm biased though as I have one too (and she is also French/English) Smile

My suggestions:
Adèle
Alba
Alma
Clémence (Clem for short)
Daphné
Luna
Margot (might be too classic for your taste?)
Mia

NOT Anaïs, because the vast majority of English speakers would not know how to pronounce it (which is a shame, because it's lovely).

I think my favourites would be Adèle and Mia.

Manon or Alixe.

@nfkl you think children are made to look ridiculous because they don't know the language of origin of their names? Did this happen to you?

I mean that's ignoring the fact that nowhere in the OP has she stated that she's told her DD it's a French name which she is to never look up or ask about

It's tricky as many of these don't sound nearly as nice when mangled by a British accent.

I love Cecile…

Eloise is a superb name and a fantastic song too!

Babyswearing · 25/02/2025 19:24

Used to know a little French Agathe and a Juliette (although that one's all in the pronunciation). I think Agathe goes beautifully.
