Just found out we are expecting a baby boy!
Looking for some boy names that are close to Quran and have good meanings however I'm white/British and dads Pakistani so looking for something that's easy for both sides of the family to pronounce!

Any idea?!?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Rashid is ra sheed, so may be mispronounced at first but is then easy to pronounce and is a lovely name in my opinion.

Maybe Adam could work?

Meredusoleil · 21/02/2025 16:37

Adam
Ibrahim
Rayan
Mustafa
Yousef
Danyal
Amir

FancyBrickPoster · 21/02/2025 16:52

Congratulations!

Mikael (mih-kyle or mih-ky-el)
Musa
Ilyas (ill-yahs)
Idris
Yusuf
Saif
Isa
Kayani / Kiani
Ismael
Zakaria / Zaki (both full names, could be Zak)
Rafi
Rakan
Raees
Laith

Personally my favourite is Mikael with the second pronunciation, but I also love Ismael and Yusuf. I’m not sure if you wanted strictly Arabic names, but Kayani / Kiani is an Urdu name, which I figured I would include as your husband is Pakistani. Good luck picking!

Also to note - I think a lot of the names have really lovely nicknames if that’s something you would like to make the pronunciations easier.

My sons best friend is called Zubair and his brother is called Zaid, I think both names are lovely.

Mercurial123 · 22/02/2025 02:51

Sami

If you aren't a Muslim yourself, I'd use a more 'British' name if the baby will be having a Pakistani name, but that's me.
If you are a Muslim, then Mohammed would be an obvious choice, but it's very popular.

RogueFemale · 22/02/2025 23:49

Basil
بَاسِل
brave, fearless, intrepid

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 23/02/2025 07:44

Amir, Karim and Zeeshan are great

JazbayGrapes · 24/02/2025 14:40

SallyWD · 24/02/2025 15:04

I know Muslim men and boys with the following names and love them all. I think they're all easy to pronounce:

Omar
Samir
Areez
Rehan
Zakariya (little boy is known as Zak or Zaki)
Faisal
Adam
Arif

Omar and Adam are my favourite

HouseAshamed · 24/02/2025 15:35

@nomoretreats , had already suggested it. Smile

RainingRoses · 24/02/2025 16:38

Elias / Ilyas
Jonah / Yunus
Noah / Nuh
Zakariya, shortened to Zak
Isaac / Ishaq
Omar
Daniel / Daniyal

Basically choose a biblical name and there probably is an Arabic equivalent!

RainingRoses · 24/02/2025 16:40

Also depends if you want an Islamic name, Pakistani name or Arabic name.

For example I love the name Laith and that is an Arabic name. It’s not an Islamic name and it’s not a Pakistani name either. So depends on what you’re looking for!

HouseAshamed · 24/02/2025 16:50

@RainingRoses , the OP implies an Islamic name.
Basically choose a biblical name and there probably is an Arabic equivalent!
That's a sweeping statement.

That's a sweeping statement.

I know that’s what the OP says but many of the names suggested aren’t Islamic, hence why I made that point, as many people confuse culturally Arabic and Pakistani names with Islamic names.

And I did say “probably”…

HouseAshamed · 24/02/2025 18:25

I wasn't criticising @RainingRoses . I'm curious about the need to ask for Islamic name suggestions. Won't most of the posters just be people browsing and not necessarily be Muslim?

Usually on a thread asking for [language/culture] names, there are suggestions that aren't [language/culture] or the names are ones that were extremely popular about 40 or 50 years ago.

FancyBrickPoster · 24/02/2025 20:16
