Is this a completely ridiculous idea? I really like the name but I’ve lost sight of whether this is downright silly

OP posts:

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 30/01/2025 15:55

Sorry, but no way is that going to work out. Please don't

rubyslippers · 30/01/2025 15:55

Ooh not sure - it’s a bit samey and matchy matchy

what about Penelope or Penny ?

GiraffesAtThePark · 30/01/2025 15:56

You’re not going to use the two names together much so I say go for it.

I’d be against it if you were siblings but there are very few events or places where you’ll be introduced as “Holly and Polly”.

BingoDingoDog · 30/01/2025 15:56

I think that's quite the statement but if you really like it then people will get used to it.

Emanwenym · 30/01/2025 16:02

It's fine @Nellyelephanty ,but you'll get the odd comment.
I know several families with that sort of name combination, and the odd couple with names like Chris and Chris.
Polly is lovely.

itsmeits · 30/01/2025 16:22

My first thought was OMG I hope little Polly grows up to have a Molly. And you have inadvertently created a spin traditional on mums name passed down.
There are not many Polly's around I love it. ❤️
Good luck @Nellyelephanty

Dsdurga · 30/01/2025 16:23

Could you maybe have pollyana or something so it isn’t an exact rhyme

Maxorias · 30/01/2025 16:23

Maybe a longer Polly name would work ? Like Polina ? Paula ? Paulette ? Pauline ?

MousePolice · 30/01/2025 16:24

Both are lovely names but they do sound odd together. You’d introduce yourself to people at baby groups as Holly, Polly’s mum.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 30/01/2025 16:26

Don't do it. It's confusing and easily misheard. So you'll never know who's being spoken about.

OSU · 30/01/2025 16:27

I wanted to call DD Holly and my MIL persuaded me against it because our dog was called Molly and it would be confusing. I regret listening to her.

StupidBitchy · 30/01/2025 16:27

F* the haters, if you like the name go for it. She won't be a baby forever she'll be her own person and your name will be irrelevant. It's really nbd.

Zippidydoodah · 30/01/2025 16:27

i met a Charlotte and Scarlett at a baby group and though it was impossibly twee. Holly and Polly is…….worse. Sorry! Pollyanna might work.

mummysmagicmedicine · 30/01/2025 16:27

Lovely names but agree with pp about introducing at baby groups, but also to her future friends mums etc etc.

Think Penny may be a better option, either as Penelope or just Penny!

Emanwenym · 30/01/2025 16:47

Dsdurga · 30/01/2025 16:23

Just NO! It's awful.

IsItAllRubbish · 30/01/2025 16:49

I know a Hannah with a daughter, Anna. It’s a bit much. But if you like it, go for it.

Drachuughtty · 30/01/2025 16:49

Do not do this!

Peregrina · 30/01/2025 16:51

I thought your surname was Holly and thought Polly Holly - NO. But it's not, and how often are you going to be introduced together? When she gets to school, she will just be Holly.

Snowmanscarf · 30/01/2025 16:52

I would use Polly as a nn for a longer mane.

Emanwenym · 30/01/2025 16:53

Leopoldina?

Namesy · 30/01/2025 16:53

There's loads of fathers that name their son after them, which I find more odd than rhyming names. Could get confusing though so maybe use Polly as a middle name.

Edenmum2 · 30/01/2025 16:54

I think if you are even considering it being an issue then it'll niggle you always so best to choose something else I'd say

purpleme12 · 30/01/2025 16:55

I think it's fine actually. Don't think it matters.

What I would say is when someone says her name to get her attention your ears will constantly prick up and you'll forever think they're calling you cos it's the same sound.

ShortWide · 30/01/2025 16:55

So sorry OP but I laughed out loud.

DoveLisand · 30/01/2025 16:56

If I met you at baby group or at school I would laugh behind your back about holly and Polly. In fact typing it makes me laugh. But maybe I am v bad and most people wouldn’t
