Caleb and Abel?

Hoping for some opinions! Would brothers Caleb and Abel immediately take your mind to the Cain and Abel biblical story? My first DS is Caleb and was thinking of using Abel for DS2 as I love the name and I like the way the letters link together. (Take away the C and the letters are the same.)

Really don’t want the association with the sad bible story with it being about one brother killing the other!

I’d appreciete your thoughts!

also considering Joel and Jude

Yes it does. I wouldn't use it.

TangerineClementine · 26/01/2025 16:03

Yes, sorry OP. When I saw the title (before reading your post) I immediately thought of Cain and Abel.

AllPlayedOut · 26/01/2025 16:03

Yes it would.

Doidontimmm · 26/01/2025 16:03

That was what my brain automatically read.

TangerineClementine · 26/01/2025 16:04

Joel is nice

Yes, sorry OP. When I saw the title (before reading your post) I immediately thought of Cain and Abel.

This.

Finedandydodah · 26/01/2025 16:04

Yes it does. Not a good combo.

Everydayflowers · 26/01/2025 16:04

Yes, Cain and Abel was my first thought. You can't do it. The name Caleb is lovely though and I like both Joel and Jude.

MumChp · 26/01/2025 16:05

Yes it would.

Coconutter24 · 26/01/2025 16:06

Tbh my first thought was Cain and Caleb from Emmerdale

LadyLucyWells · 26/01/2025 16:07

Fleetingly but no more than that. Both lovely names so if you love it then go for it.

Yes! Don’t be doing that.

Joel is nice

Jude is nice but getting very overdone

Amos perhaps?

rapidsrunner · 26/01/2025 16:26

I like the name Caleb very much.
If you don't prefer to have the association with Cain and Abel then I would suggest not pairing them as that is the first thing I thought of when I saw your post.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 26/01/2025 16:28

Yes, without a doubt

Only2WeeksToGo · 26/01/2025 16:36

Yes, too close to Cain and Abel. Also just to similar names. Jude or Joel work much better.

RitaFromTheRanch · 26/01/2025 16:52

Yes but I would just call them Abel and Cain and it's not as obvious

RitaFromTheRanch · 26/01/2025 16:52

Sorry Caleb Grin

mewkins · 26/01/2025 16:54

Yes it does sound like that.

A wildcard but what about Avery?

MrWise · 26/01/2025 16:55

Caleb and Joel are lovely

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 26/01/2025 17:08

The name Abel all by itself puts me in mind of a bible story, it's not a name I've ever heard anywhere aside from that story.

Doesn't really matter what his brothers name is, that connection is still going to be made.

WitcheryDivine · 26/01/2025 17:08

Yes it does, and it also makes me read it simultaneously as Cable and Abel.

also think it’s going to be the butt of jokes when older, any time anyone asks him “are you Abel?” it’s likely to get “funny” responses.

Caleb and Asher? Caleb and Arlo?

LostittoBostik · 26/01/2025 17:09

Yeah it's an immediate Cain and Abel for me

AppleKatie · 26/01/2025 17:10

Caleb and Jude sound like great brothers.

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/01/2025 17:16

I think it does sorry.

I love Jude, but it is very common currently in the baby and toddler groups I go to. I only know 1 Joel (4 year old) but I'm not as big a fan of it.

Ezra would be lovely too and I know a few Jonah's and Jasper's. Elijah?

Caleb is gorgeous btw
