Boy names with girly nicknames?

tsimq · 25/01/2025 23:23

I’m still on the quest to find the perfect name and decided to steer away from my original very feminine names list and look towards more traditionally boys names as I’m running out of time and can’t make up my mind.

So far I’ve thought of Wyatt, Elliott (Ellie), Emerson and Emmett (Emmy/Emma) and Ryan.

I’ve met two girls in my life named Mason and Gabriel but those don’t fit my taste at all.

I am also open for more traditionally unisex names such as River, Avery and Blake.

Mila, Autumn, Matilda, Elise, Julie, Noelle, Maeve and Anya are currently in my “traditionally female names” list.

thank you!

Sorry, are you looking for names for a girl? If so, why are you so keen to give her a boys name, especially if you are trying to find a girl's name linked to it?

DeepFatFried · 25/01/2025 23:42

Is the baby a boy or a girl?

OurFlagMeansAfternoonTea · 25/01/2025 23:42

Just give her a girl's name. Do you think there is something wrong with being a girl?

I once worked in the US with a woman called Mario. She found it embarrassing having a boy's name.

Not “so keen”, couldn’t find a name I love yet and decided to broaden my search is all. I know many women with names you’d traditionally link to men and they love it, thought I’d look into some others since I’ve been searching for months and haven’t fallen in love with anything yet and baby is due soon.

Suggest you don't give a girl a boys name

If you read the post you can see I’ve been looking for a long time and haven’t found a name I like yet so decided to open up my search as something I like might show up and baby is due soon. I also know women with traditionally male names (Mason and Gabriel on my post are both my best friend and a coworker of years) and they love it, I’m just trying to get more ideas, nothing wrong with being a girl at all.

Matilda = NN Matty
Winnifred = NN Freddie

personally I think the giving a girl a boys name trend won’t last, so I’d give her a classic name and then give her a male NN if you are so keen about this

I loved Dylan for a girl and it's semi popular for girls. Ive known one and there was one in desperate housewives

VotingForYourself · 26/01/2025 06:43

There's no point choosing a "traditionally male" name if you're going to use the girly nickname

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 26/01/2025 06:46

Frankie

PleaseAndThankYou12 · 26/01/2025 06:46

I personally love the names Ryan & James for girls!

I know a Henrietta who goes by Henri - I think it's very cool!

Wyatt, Elliott (Ellie), Emerson and Emmett (Emmy/Emma) and Ryan.

None of these names are unisex. Just name her Ellie or Emma on her birth certificate especially if you want to use these as 'nicknames.' Might as well put it on the birth certificate.

River, Avery and Blake
You could get away with Avery.

Mila, Autumn, Matilda, Elise, Julie, Noelle, Maeve and Anya are currently in my “traditionally female names” list
I like Matilda
