Unisex Name for Girl

I’ve a great disdain for flowery feminine names or anything twee, and am keen for daughter to have a strong name that the sex would be ambiguous when read. I’ve always been drawn to these names on powerful, gorgeous women and definitely want to go unisex.

This is what we have so far, keen to hear favourites:

Blake
Blair
Drew
Morgan
Robin

Would you want a unisex name for a boy?

Son is Alex, so is ambiguous also.

All of those names seem like boy names to me but yea there are always a few examples of girls with those names.

How about:
Charlie
Courtney
Ashley
Frankie

Leni
Albie
Eden

Joelle and Marcelle are the feminine spellings but the names themselves are unisex

AluckyEllie · 25/01/2025 18:06

I was going to suggest Alex 😂. Max? Jamie?

I like robin and Morgan the best, Morgan is really lovely actually. Blake/Blair and Drew sound a bit American to me so not my favourites although they are inoffensive.

People will presume girl for Blake, trust me, I have a lifetime of experience.

Aubrey too (One of my sisters).

Unfortunately people will assume sex based on some of your suggestions.
For example most Morgans are male in the UK where as the US it’s more evenly split. I would assume Blair is female as I think of Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl which is still watched by teens today. I would assume Blake is female (Blake Lively) which is one you might want to swerve because of the court case that could make her the next Amber Heard.

What's seen as unisex varies a lot by where you are, as others have noted, and personally think any name can be strong.

Of the ones you've listed, Robin is my favourite, but I've been told quite a few times where I am that Robin (and bird names in general) are viewed as feminine.

Some I've liked, but not used (leaving out Alexis as you already have an Alex):
Argent
Bryn
Cassidy
Emory
Jamie
Joyce
Kacey
Rial
Sage
Shea

Yeah for me Blair and Blake mean gossip girl!
