Do these sound right together?

Hi Guys, currently in my first trimester, I'm about 3 1/2 weeks pregnant, very excited & awaiting my first midwife appointment.

My Dad passed away in 2021, his name was Edmund (Eddie) Francis and my partners grandad passed away in 2017, his name was James (Jimmy). If I'm having a boy I would love to name him after these two amazing men. So I'm playing with some first & middle names and can't decide if they sound okay or are too much? or if anyone has a different idea ive not thought of, that would be a big help. let me know what you think ...

I can see grown man called Jimmy... which is hard for me with Eddie - to me that's always nickname, while Jimmy might be full name. I do like James Ed (favorite) and Jimmy Ed.

I think the only one for me that's useable is James Ed, because the first name is solid and the middle name hardly gets used. I think the repeated y sound doesn't go together so they're my least favourite.

I would say I'm also not a fan of honour names for first names, because it can be very hard to live up to the person they were named after. This is especially true if there are partners or siblings still alive, it can be very jarring to hear the deceased's name often. I'd use the middle name for honour names and give a completely new first name. Of course completely up to you, but something to think about.

I know Francis isn’t one of your options, but I really like it, either as a first or middle name.

Just putting it out there…

Edmund/Edward and James are all solid easy names. What do you like better, Eddie or Jimmy? Use that as your first name and expect that people might not use the same diminutive.

I’d stick with either Edmund James or James Edmund! Both such great names - don’t be tempted to tinker with them! You can use the shortenings Ed/Eddie or Jimmy as your prefer.

I like Edmund, but just love the shortened version of Eddie, Edward wasn’t anybody’s name but sounds great with James 😂

Schools will call him whatever you tell them to so if you tell them it's Eddie from the start, that's what they'll call him. It doesn't matter what's on the birth certificate.

Edmund and James are both lovely, timeless names. I suggest giving him the full length names on the BC. You can still call him as you like, but he'll have a more professional name if he chooses to be a barrister, for example.

Nice middle names, to go with his very own first name.

I like Edmund James best. Personally I would give them the full name on their birth certificate but you can then use what ever shortened version you like Ed / Eddie and this will be used at school etc.

The full more formal version of the name on the birth certificate may be helpful when they are an adult in certain circumstances. ( my nephew has a friend who was christened Jimmy and now as an adult he hates it - wishes he had been given the name James for the work environment )

Jedmund would be perfect.

Nickname either Eddie or Jimmy, probably becoming Ed or Jim as he gets older. The short versions aren't good, sorry.
