Casper/Jasper/something else

Thoughts on Casper/Jasper?
What do they evoke?
Would like something kind of fancy sounding (other child's name is mildly aristocratic - miss me with the judgement, they're just the sort of names we like/have in the family)
Also, I know Casper reminds everyone of the ghost, but I don't really see that as a big deal 🤷‍♀️

Wonder if both names are just a bit too common now, seem to be quite a few Jaspers around anyway.

Would love your thoughts, or alternative ideas.

Thanks! :-)

Makes me think of the rugby song, but I suspect that's a age thing 😟
"Oh Sir Jasper Do Not Touch Me"

Inigo is the brother I feel

Its not, we're not quite that brave! Great name though.

I know a Jasper who gets called Jas, which i personally don't like.

CheshireCat1 · 15/01/2025 08:08

The only Jasper that I’m away of is Jasper Tudor

I have a Caspar! Chose -ar spelling because I also understood it to be the more British spelling, and (to respond to the original post) it is perceived to be more aristocratic…at least in the circles I move in.

I can confirm we do have to correct spelling a lot I’m afraid….don’t regret it though !

HeyCooper · 29/04/2025 22:02

Love Caspar.

I don't think of the ghost.

Marmiteontoastgirlie · 29/04/2025 22:02

Oscar or Jagger could be other options

My Caspar is 15 and I love his name and I'm also glad we went with the traditional Caspar the king spelling.
I don't know of any other Caspar's but he does have a cousin Jasper! Never had the ghost referenced after about the 1st 12 months
Cas is seeming to be used a little more the older he gets but that also sounds nice to me

tealandteal · 29/04/2025 22:20

We have a little Jasper and lots of people have said what a lovely name, we haven’t met another. Although there was a dog in the vets last week called Jasper and he was very confused! He is only 2 but no one has shortened his name yet. I much prefer Caspian to Casper.

My husband and my son are in that list 😂

I like Caspar and Jasper. I had them on my list I also had Jesper on my list which I thought would be cute shortened to Jesse. Sounds like we have similar taste in boys names I also had Reuben, Rufus, Rupert, Otto, Auryn, Jago, Eben, Nico, Felix on my list

kitchenplans · 30/04/2025 20:12

I prefer Jasper to Casper.

What about Jeremy nn Jerry (or Jem)? With all the Margots around, surely that's due a revival? And it has that slightly posh air about it!

CellophaneFlower · 08/05/2025 10:29

I have a Casper. In 8 years I've hardly ever been asked the spelling and when I have it's to check if it's with a C or a K.

I liked it when I heard of Kasper Schmeichel, but went with the C spelling as thought it was more recognised here.

Justwingit66 · 15/09/2025 01:14

I have a Jasper. It suits him perfectly and we often call him jasp or Jaspy for short. His middle name is John so he also gets JJ which I figure he can use as a teenager if he wants to be cool haha

Dearnurse · 15/09/2025 01:56

Love both , also Felix , cosmo & rupert seem your vibe x congratulations x

I’m guessing husband is Alistair and son is Montague. Monty and Ali you call them 😂 Am I correct?

Lemonadepie · 18/09/2025 20:16

I prefer Caspar

Jasper sounds feminine, especially the short form Jazz, Jazzie or Jaspie

We have a Caspar too, also went with the ‘ar’ spelling. It seemed the correct British spelling er seems American to me.

Love his name, he mostly gets Caspar, sometimes Cass by his brother. My favourite name of our children.
