We have chosen this name for our little girl but can't settle on a spelling what are people's opinions please?

OP posts:

@mitogoshigg yes I don't think Judy Blume was thinking of Farley's Rusks when she created the character of Fudge - she probably just liked the name Farley.
I have no idea if it was a particularly well known name in early 70s New York where the book is set.

Serpentstooth · 09/01/2025 22:41

Charlie Barley Farley. Whyever not? Everyone loves a biscuit.

UndergroundOvergroundWomblingFreeby · 09/01/2025 22:42

In the 70s the Two Roonies did a sketch series w8sh the characters Charlie Farley and Piggy Malone.
That and Farley's Rusks.
Just no.

Lovemybunnies · 09/01/2025 22:42

Oh gosh it’s awful, sorry.

berksandbeyond · 09/01/2025 22:43

It's not a name. It's barely even a word ffs

StrikeForever · 09/01/2025 22:43

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 09/01/2025 22:30

Chosen it for your little girl - is she born yet

and then this poor child is lumbered with this awful name for the rest of her life !

Why would you do that ?

Alright, chill the F out. The OP has said she has taken on board people’s view of the name.

WhereAreWeNow · 09/01/2025 22:44

I just thought rusks too.

KarlaKK · 09/01/2025 22:46

Blongers · 09/01/2025 22:37

i think talia is just a Nn for Natalia no?

I believe it is a Hebrew name.

Needmorelego · 09/01/2025 22:48

@berksandbeyond it is a name but a boys name.

Farley or Farlie
Needanewname42 · 09/01/2025 22:49

It wouldn't be my choice by stick with Farley, Farlie looks like some sort of spelling mistake for Fairie.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 09/01/2025 22:49

A character in Saltburn spells it Farleigh.

I don't think it'll have the association with Rusks to your daughter's generation, so I wouldn't worry about that.

DogPot · 09/01/2025 22:49

WellsAndThistles · 09/01/2025 22:22

Might as well go with Fartly as that's what they'll call her in school.

(Missing the point but...I remember Farley rusks, can you still get them? They were disgusting having to wash soggy chewed stuck on putridness off all the baby toys and baby's hands.)

It used to set like concrete!😵‍💫

sweetkitty · 09/01/2025 22:51

@Blongers you are correct Talia is Hebrew the feminine of Tal meaning Dew from Heaven , a very old Hebrew name. I have a Talia (pronounced TaH-Lee-ah) I love the name and have only had lively comments about it, my Talia is an adult now have heard a few little Talia’s around nowadays. Can also spell it Thalia and Thalia.

I also don’t like Farley sorry, made me think of Rusks and Saltburn. There’s also a village in Scotland called Fairlie.

what about Faye Farah Faith?

Talia is a lovely name.

GoodVibesHere · 09/01/2025 22:54

Farley's rusks is my first thought.

Siblings could be Kellog or Nestle.

Needanewname42 · 09/01/2025 22:57

Are Farleys rusks still on the market?
My kids have never had them. Would anyone under 40 know what they are?

Op thinking about it I think Farleigh might be a better option, also gives Leigh as an option.

There is something nice about using a family name. And if Harley is an accepted name then why shouldn't Farley or Farleigh.
My initial WTF has mellowed very very quickly, it's growing on me.

Go for it.

CorsicaDreaming · 09/01/2025 22:58

Aydel · 09/01/2025 22:08

Farley’s rusks.

Yup! 🤣

Aydel · 09/01/2025 22:59

How about Phloughie?

garlictwist · 09/01/2025 23:00

Isn't it the name of a (female) character in a Dolly Alderton novel? I quite like it. But spell it properly.

thinktwice36 · 09/01/2025 23:00

Rusks.

WeeOrcadian · 09/01/2025 23:02

Rusks?

Give your head a wobble, please

sweetkitty · 09/01/2025 23:03

@KarlaKK thanks we think so, our Talia really suits her name has always been a very unique girl

ThePoshUns · 09/01/2025 23:05

You are joking?

Namechangedforgoodreasons · 09/01/2025 23:06

Aydel · 09/01/2025 22:08

Farley’s rusks.

First thing I thought too.

Don't do it (however you spell it).

AdaColeman · 09/01/2025 23:07

I've seen some strange names on this Board but Farley takes the biscuit. Biscuit Biscuit
