We have chosen this name for our little girl but can't settle on a spelling what are people's opinions please?

Is she a little bear? I think Farley, like the rusks, is quite cute.

WellsAndThistles · 09/01/2025 22:22

Might as well go with Fartly as that's what they'll call her in school.

(Missing the point but...I remember Farley rusks, can you still get them? They were disgusting having to wash soggy chewed stuck on putridness off all the baby toys and baby's hands.)

MrsBelle · 09/01/2025 22:22

Oh gosh I didn't realise how many people would dislike the same. It's really eye opening, thank you

Sorry but Charley Farley was my first thought too. When people phoned the house to try and sell something and they asked my dad's name he used to say Charley Farley :)

DogInATent · 09/01/2025 22:23

I knew a Fairlie (or possibly Fairley), lovely name. Seems to be pretty interchangeable as a forename for either a girl or a boy, as well as a surname.

BotterMon · 09/01/2025 22:23

You can still get Farley's Rusks. Definitely not a nice name.

Muthaofcats · 09/01/2025 22:23

Neither

Scrabbelator · 09/01/2025 22:23

Rusks.
What about Farah instead?

Bigearringsbigsmile · 09/01/2025 22:24

Why would you saddle your lovely daughter with such an awful name?????

Emanwenym · 09/01/2025 22:25

@MrsBelle , Just pick something from the top 20 names for girls and pick Rose May or Grace as a middle name, and you'll get pages of posts telling you it's a gorgeous name.

nocoolnamesleft · 09/01/2025 22:26

Congratulations on your little girl. I'm afraid my brain also went instantly to the rusk. In general surname-derived first names seem to work better for boys?

alexdgr8 · 09/01/2025 22:28

You want to name your child after a rusk??
Isn't that a bit infantilising.
Guess this is a wind up.

Tootjaskoot · 09/01/2025 22:29

Fali is quite sweet as an alternative.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 09/01/2025 22:30

Chosen it for your little girl - is she born yet

and then this poor child is lumbered with this awful name for the rest of her life !

Why would you do that ?

Rockmehardplace · 09/01/2025 22:30

I'd go for Farlie, to try and disassociate it from the rusks. But after a pp, now all I hear is Fartly. Sorry OP!

Emanwenym · 09/01/2025 22:30

Maybe she's a sibling for Milo

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 09/01/2025 22:31

Another who instantly thought of the rusks.

I actually know a farley but he's a man, I was thinking doing the ie to make it more feminine. I didn't realise it was an out there name tbh 🙈

Putting an ie on the end doesnt make it more feminine or okay.

i get you may want an unusual name but seriously ask yourself if a lifetime of pronunciations, misspellings and teasing is worth it.

Also think of it as an adult name.

Big no from me.

RosemaryRabbit · 09/01/2025 22:35

Fallon is a nice girls' name as an alternative.

I personally quite like Farley.

KarlaKK · 09/01/2025 22:35

Tootjaskoot · 09/01/2025 22:29

Fali is quite sweet as an alternative.

This is nothing like Farley/Farlie but after Tootjaskoot suggested Fali, I'm suggesting Talia or Tahlia. Very pretty name and not one I've heard much.

mitogoshigg · 09/01/2025 22:35

The minute I read it I thought rusks. Now they may not be around in years to come but anyone over 20 now will think of them. Perhaps something more suited for a lifelong name and save the cute one as nickname.

Needmorelego · 09/01/2025 22:36

If you like the sound maybe go for Carly or Marley (although people might associate Marley with dogs).
Random thoughts.......in the Judy Blume "Fudge" books the character of the little boy called Fudge is actually called Farley. I can't remember why he got nicknamed Fudge. If the character was a real person going by when the book was first published he would be an almost 60 year old Farley 🙂

i think talia is just a Nn for Natalia no?

mitogoshigg · 09/01/2025 22:38

@Needmorelego

Judy Blume is American and they don't have rusks, wasn't a brand at least 25 years ago when mine were small it wasn't (my mum brought them with her!)

Snugglemonkey · 09/01/2025 22:39

I came on to mention the character from the Judy Blume book. I think Farley is a surname which has been used as a first name. It is not very nice, particularly for a girl. Sorry op.
