I'm six months pregnant with first and expecting a daughter. Italian family.

Stuck between Annabella and Isabella.

Which do you like best?

Isabella

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 09/01/2025 21:44

They're both beautiful names but really really popular in the UK at the moment. Would you consider another Italian name that isn't as popular in the UK? Such a beautiful language. Congratulations and if you do end up picking either of those names they are beautiful but expect there to be several with the same name in their class!

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 09/01/2025 21:45

Annabella is beautiful

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/01/2025 21:52

Annabella is beautiful - and I like Annie for short too. Isabella is also lovely but very, very overused around us (if you include Isabelle / Isabel / Isobel).

Emanwenym · 09/01/2025 22:29

Isabella. Annabella sounds like anabolic.

sel2223 · 10/01/2025 04:51

Isabella by far.

Not a fan of Annabella......Anabel is OK.

Isabella

Lucyaugust2007 · 10/01/2025 09:31

Annabella.

I also like Annabelle and Arabella.

Hoolahoophop · 10/01/2025 10:23

I'm not keen on bella or belle names as I think they are a bit twee and make me think Disney princess.

But prefer Annabella to Isabella.

Annabella can be, Anne, Annie, Anna, or the bells, so lots of choice which have a different feel to them and can match personality. Anne is practical and strong, Annie is sweet, Anna a bit feisty, belle is decorative.

Isabella will likely be Izzy, ditsy, or belle decorative, it doesn't and its options don't sound like a strong names to me.

Printedword · 10/01/2025 10:25

Isabella I like. I don't mind Anabel but not sure about Anabella. Ultimately your choice though.

BootballJoy · 10/01/2025 11:06

Isabella

It really doesn't!
I prefer Annabella because then she can choose to be Anna if she prefers which is much nicer than Izzy.

HaroldMeaker · 10/01/2025 11:10

Isabella is lovely. I don't really like Annabella, just a bit frilly to my taste. Also I'm hearing it everywhere so it's become v popular.

It does, @Whoarethoseguys , and it also sounds like Arabella. It seems every other female dog or cat is called Bella too. Annabel is Ok, but Annabella is too long and frilly.
Anna is better than Izzy though.

Needanewname42 · 10/01/2025 12:19

Isabella or Isabel

Annabella, Annabel is too close to the doll.

TangerineClementine · 10/01/2025 12:20

Annabella, because I prefer Anna to Izzy for a nickname.

Sunnyflow · 10/01/2025 14:10

Isabella is much more elegant and classy

Annabella sounds frilly and ridiculous to me.

Firsttimebabymummy · 10/01/2025 14:25

Prefer Isabella but I'd pick Anna if that was an option.

Calliopespa · 23/03/2025 16:19

Annabella I prefer because Isabella has been overused for about 15 years now.

Annabella is fresher - though personally I’d opt for Annabelle or Arabella because they both sound slightly less frilly with the “ harder” r sound added or without the extra a at the end . But it’s a lovely name all the same.

Bluelavenders · 23/03/2025 17:18

Definitely Isabella

Annabella sounds like anabolic

ginasevern · 23/03/2025 17:24

Annabella because Isabella has become ubiquitous.

RuthW · 23/03/2025 17:35

Annabella. It’s very slightly less popular. There will be at least three Isabellas/Isobels/Isabels/Annabellas/Annabelles/ Arabellas/Bellas in every class.

Annabella isn’t that popular! I say go for Annabella.

I agree. It’s Isabella that’s heavily used.
