Middle names that go with the name Aurora

RedRobyn2021 · 01/01/2025 21:28

Looking for a middle name that goes with the name Aurora please

Baby is a week old and everyone keeps asking us for the name but we don't want to announce it until we've decided on the whole name

I thought Rose but we also were considering Evelyn

Other suggestions would be appreciated please

Aurora Leigh is beautiful. I don’t immediately think of Disney, I instantly think of the beautiful ballet and music by Tchaikovsky.
Rory-Leigh would be a lovely name too.
Aurora Rose just instantly makes me think ‘Rose Adagio’. Ignore the haters, OP.

Evelyn Rose would be nice…

Rose is a filler name, done to death.

LizzieVereker · 02/01/2025 22:07

As Aurora means Dawn in Latin, maybe Hope?

Whilst I agree people can be a touch insensitive, The strange thing is the OP saying she doesn’t care for anyone’s opinions etc… why ask for opinions on an open public forum then 😭

I didn't, I asked for people's suggestions for a middle name duh can't you read?

I had to name change for this post so I wouldn't out myself. Smile My middle name is Elisabeth so I think that goes nicely. Don't overthink it OP, and don't let the naysayers on this thread get you down. I've lived with the name Aurora for nearly fifty years and it's fine; no-one ever has a problem with it (apart from occasionally the spelling!)

Thank you

Sorry people are being so horrid about your beautiful name!

Did your family ever shorten your name or have you always been Aurora?

Aurora is a lovely name. I’ve always liked it and I didn’t know about the disney princess connection until a few years ago. It’s irrelevant unless we also have to rule out Belle and Jasmine as well.

as for middle names, I LOVE Jean as a middle name. It’s so cool. Aurora Jean is lovely and if you go with the nickname Rory then Rory Jean is also a cute little moniker. We call our daughter by her first name shortening and middle name quite often, as an affectionate pet name.

congrats on your baby and don’t worry about some random strangers disliking the name Aurora. No name is universally liked so you just have to not care that there might be someone sniffy about it. I’m sure if those rude posters on here said what their kids were called, there’d be plenty of dissent.

My grandmother's name is Jean, I'll talk to my partner I don't think he's keen on Jean but maybe as a middle name he'd feel different

I absolutely love Aurora, but this is Mumsnet, and you're only supposed to like Charlotte and George or something else top-20. OP, congratulations on your new arrival. I would be delighted to know a little Aurora.

I love whimsical middle names, and would pair the wonderful Aurora with something similarly cool, like:

Tabitha
Jessamine
Fleur
Ember
Calypso
Sage
Lark
Tansy

I actually love Briar, and the Disney vibe is fine by me. I also love Jasmine!

NCNP · 02/01/2025 22:39

Also Vesper.
And Seraphina.

eggandonion · 02/01/2025 22:42

@NCNC Sorry to contradict, but it would be terrible to use a name in the top twenty!
My daughter who is nearly 30 has Grace as a middle name. My inlaws were horrified at such a dreadful old fashioned name!
Jean is really cool, in my opinion which you can discount if you want.

eggandonion · 02/01/2025 22:44

I like Tansy and Seraphina!

pambeesleyhalpert · 02/01/2025 22:45

I love Aurora and love the NN rory! If she was born a week ago I'd give her a Christmassy middle name!

Ivy
Holly
Neva- means snow in Latin and Spanish apparently
Eira- Welsh word for snow- would have been my daughters name if she was a winter baby
Eve

I agree! I would veer away from anything top 100! I was saying this is mn though, and most (vocal on baby name thread) MNers seem to play it very safe, and are aghast at anything not top 20.

eggandonion · 02/01/2025 22:50

I need a pretty kitten to use one of the names here. I'm more granny aged, and know not to Diss a grandchild's name.

Rosieb87 · 03/01/2025 06:08

I'm currently pregnant due early Feb and since before we even knew we were having a girl she was always going to be Aurora Rose. She can go by Rory or Rose when older if she doesn't like Aurora and who cares if it's a Disney name? Personally I'm a massive Disney fan so it's perfect to me and I think it's super pretty! (Also my name being Rosemary it's a bit of a nod to my name as her middle name)

Honestly some of the comments on here are so rude and unnecessary people don't seem to realise Aurora has been used as a name for a long time and has a beautiful meaning!

BluebellsareBlue · 03/01/2025 07:54

Aurora Bliss

Waterboatlass · 03/01/2025 08:31

Aurora Jean is great!!

Really!

I think it's so lovely ♥️

I have a February baby too, my eldest, it's a great time to have a baby. Lovely and cold outside, cosy inside and you're on the brink of Spring

I really like your suggestions, my DD1 has a nature middle name and I do like the idea of picking another nature name

Jean is a really unpopular name at the moment, I looked it up 😂

It's one of the reasons I suggested it (before we decided on Aurora) because I thought it would be cool

She was born Christmas Day!

Poor girl 😂

Couldn't believe it when my contractions started up in the morning, I was like ooooh noooo the one day I didn't think she'd come!

Managed to have my Christmas dinner though and then went upstairs right after and let my body get on with it

Aurora Lark is very pretty.

Gemstonebeach · 03/01/2025 10:12

Aurora is lovely, the goddess of dawn. I think Aurora Grace like others, a pal is the opposite. Aurelia is also lovely.

Natalie and Natasha both mean born on Christmas Day if you wanted a nod to that

or you could go for something like
Aurora Holly
Aurora Ivy
Aurora Christina
Aurora Noelle
Aurora Maria
Aurora Celyn
Aurora Mair
Aurora Robyn

HugoYorway · 03/01/2025 10:40

Natalie and Natasha both mean born on Christmas Day
They're from 'birth of the Lord', so more Christmas-related than specific to Christmas day, Aurora Natalia flows.

AuroraElisabeth · 03/01/2025 10:45

No-one ever shortens my name, OP, the Rory nickname has only come about as the name has become more popular. Only one person has ever mentioned the Sleeping Beauty connection; most people immediately think of the Aurora Borealis.

Some of the reactions on this thread are so over-the-top it's ridiculous. I met a teenager called Khaleesi recently and, while I felt that it was a somewhat unfortunate name, it didn't make me think any less of the young woman or that she wouldn't be able to be a professional! Hmm
